Guest Anonymous Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Would a 3400 DIRECTLY swap in place of an existing 3.4? If not, what needs to change? would it still work with my gadgets? Quote
White93z34 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 no. wiring, pcm, engine cradle may need to change (not sure on that one) anyones guess for that one, Quote

gp90se Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 things that would need to be changed: wiring = yes pcm = yes engine cradle= no the firewall plug on the 3x00 and the 3.4 harness are the same, so is the cradle. still think the 3.4 is a much more fun motor Quote

White93z34 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 good luck finding a shop to swap it though. most shops won't be bothered with indirect swaps. i'd say do it yourself. but we all know how that goes. Quote
patgizz Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 cradle = same. 3x00 and 3.1 use same mounts. wiring = compatible except for injector plugs. i've used the same harness on my original 3.1, my first swap the 3.4 dohc, and now my '00 3400 swap. couple things need moved around but it works fine. need p/s lines and radiator hoses off a 3x00 w-body, as well as an exhaust downpipe off a 3x00 w-body. as far as the computer goes as of today mine is running freaking sweet on a 93 3.1 chip and 3.1 injectors, until such time as i get it out to ben for tuning with bigger injectors. all 3, same harness, 3400 and 3.4 used the same 4T60-e(till such time as i get around to putting in my hm-282). you'll need to find a 93 3.1/automatic chip for your car to keep controlling your electronic trans, if you want to go that route. FYI it ran like ass with the dohc chip and injectors, and ran like ass with dohc injectors and 3.1 chip. but the 3.1 chip and matching injectors are tits. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 You people are vultures. Anyway, were there other cars besides w-body's that had a 3400, and are the parts compabable? Quote
JoroCorona Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 The 3400 was in the Aztec and Venture/Transport lines. Aswell as the obvious W-Bodies, Impala and Monte Carlo... I'm not sure if they ever got into GPs. Quote
Canada Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Yep...........base GPs anyways. You've got the entire U, N, and W line up to choose from. Quote
BIGBULS Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Yep...........base GPs anyways. You've got the entire U, N, and W line up to choose from. Base GP's and "base" Regals (Century in other words) got the 3100 (big port from 00-03)............NOT the 3400. Canada = duuuuuuh........ Quote
Prospeeder Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Grand ams had the 3400, SE1 and SE2 and GT's wich had a ram air version with more power, not much though, pretty bad setup. WHy is a 3400 better than the 3.4? less power w/ the 3400, even though the 3.4 has reliablilty issues, the 3400 has Intake manifold gaskets and water pump problems too. Why do such a swap? Quote
OldsmoBeast Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 easier to get....easier to work on....maybe? Quote
Prospeeder Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 oh i didnt know, im not too familiar with 3.4 DOHC, my moms got a grand am GT with a 3400, got alot of power down low, but up high its a dog Quote

cryptnix Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 oh and http://www.3400swap.com/ uhh whats that? also for the 3400 ... there are new gaskets out that take care of it. Quote
Canada Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 I guess I really haven't ran into many maintence issues with the LQ1.....it could pry go for a timing belt. But like thats hard to do. The LA1 in the Beretta isn't a bad motor either.....in fact.....it pulls on my Grand Prix quite nicely from certain speeds....even though it lacks top end and is teamed to an automatic transmission with a weak dick torque converter.
