rshissler Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Which engine would swap right in to replace a 2.8?? The good old 2.8 is diein slowly Quote
Robby1870 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 yeah, 3.1L is a direct swap. Although judging by your screen name, you have an '88. '88 2.8s used a MAF sensor rather than a MAP, so, if you havent had it swapped over to a MAP, that would be your only problem. And, getting a 3.1L with a vacuum EGR would make your swap easier Quote
DrRodey Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Other options, some of which require "a little work" to make work, in order of ease of instalation 3.1 (easy to find, direct bolt up, minor electrical issues) 3.4 (gen 2 firebird/camaro engine same as 3.1 only bored out.) 3100, 3400 (massive wiring/computer issues again, otherwise prety easy hook up) 3.4DOHC (again have wiring/computer issues.) It all depends on how much power you want, and how much time, energy, and money you want to put into it. Dan. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 3.4 (gen 2 firebird/camaro engine same as 3.1 only bored out. Please inform me how to put an engine from a rear wheel drive car into a front wheel drive car. Quote
toastemcutlass Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 how much money you willing to spend? the 3.1 is an easy swap just like they said, the 3.4 will work(the older ones, if you dont have a maf sensor) but the 3.4 is pretty strong but can be a handful with mantnance..im assuming you have the 4t60 trans(not electronic)? if so ive seen guys that swap eailer model supercharged 3800 and they say the trans holds up...though im not sure it would if you raump on it alot. the other ? is how good at wiring are you cuz if you do the 3800(l36) or 3800sc(l67/l32) you need to wire about 40 or so wires which is not that bad but everything bolts right up, no moding of mounts or anything but if you did a newer model l36 or l67 you would need the trans too, because of there wiring being different and stronger...let me know the price range your looking at and the kind of power your looking for with the swap, ill come up with a plausible combo if you want Quote

rshissler Posted January 10, 2005 Author Report Posted January 10, 2005 the trans is gonna have to be switched anyways cuz its half shot. I'm pretty good at wiring just what wires would i have to hook up differnet? i'm pretty much lookin for anything with power and it dont matter the money. Quote
