Is there really a good way to go about this? I got my parts in finally for the 96-96 intake swap, but they are fairly dirty. Before I take up patgizz's offer to come over to his place to use the sandblaster, I wanted to try to get them somewhat cleaned up here.

Is it safe to put them in a tub of water and some sort of cleanins solution? If so, what type of cleaner can I put in there?

To me, it looks as if the car was involved in some sort of engine fire. It does have some build up on it, but nothing too awful bad. They are just mainly dirty, and I'm looking for an efficient way to clean them up.

EDIT: Some of it also seems as if it's paint too, which I know will come off in the sandblaster.

Well, after taking some simple green and a wire brush to one of the parts, it appears as if they were painted black :? So, I guess I'll get them all cleaned up somewhate before I head off to get them sandblasted.

aircraft stripper.

Acetone and Aircraft paint stripper work wonders. Just don't breathe too deeply around them...

Try using a steam cleaner or pressure washer, just seal off any ports and openings. :)
