What could I expect to gain from a DHP Power Tuner?

My car's in my signature... I wasn't sure if it'd work on my car so I contacted DHP directly, and apparently it will work just fine on my car, though some features wouldn't work as it was designed for the GM 3800. Anyhow, what kind of gains do y'all thing I'd see for $400?

Take care Y'all!

hey it will cancel out your speed limiter and improve your shift points! Maybe 5hp's on your car
Yup. Won't do you much good on a 3100 without having major mods. Would not be worth it IMO. (now I would buy one for the GTP if I had the money)

buy DHP chip foryour car. it will deleat your governer, UP your shiftpoints to like 6krpms in every gear  that alone will drop you almost a half second in the qt mile

:werd: Same goes for my GTP. But the raised shift points and skip shifts etc... Make it a very good mod.

I'm planning on buying it.

Hell.....for the simple fact that I can adjust my shift points as I see fit and the ability to raise the governor is nearly worth it.

Then throw in the fact that I can head to a dyno and tune......not some fuck stick like Jet or Hypertech.

Something else I was curious about is whether or not a laptop is required. I mean, is it like one of those hand held programmers or what? I'm not about to buy a laptop just to program my damn car!

Come on guys, leave him alone, besides, I'm pretty sure this was meant as a bit of sarcasm. If not however...

Can the DHP Power Tuner 1.1.7 increase line pressure too?

  • 4 weeks later...

don't buy it. like everyone says. find a new engine for your car. people rest on "engines" as "your car" ... so quite literally "your engine sucks." ... so in other words only buy it if you're going to build up your engine.

i see a 3400 drop and a buildup for a turbo in my future ... now that is a reason i would want to see Powertuner on my laptop...

It's this simple.........if you plan on a 3400, and/or more bolt-ons (a proper exhaust, UDP, proper CAI etc), then the DHP powertuner can be a great mod.

The hardware comes with a decent "off the shelf" PCM flash to use as a base program to get you started, then YOU can tune to your hearts desire. This gives you the flexibility to do damn near anything you want with powertrain control, ignition and fuel curves, and just about any other parameter (it also gains you access to the DHP tuning forums so you can share programs [.bin files] with other Powertuner owners).

BUT.

Even with dyno time and a good custom tune for your car, do NOT expect more than 6-8whp PERIOD (and likely a little less).........it is still a fairly close to stock NA car after all (it'd be a little more useful for tuning after the 3400 swap, but even then, I doubt more than 10hp is to be had).

Of course, 5hp when matched with the shiftpoint control DOES make a difference though..........depending on mods, anywhere from 2-5 tenths in the 1/4..........

Basically, it just comes down to what you plan for your car, because while the DHP Powetuner IS a good mod, it IS also expensive AND can be a little labor-intensive.

And YES you need a laptop (borrow one ) , and NO the 4T60-E can NOT have it's line pressure jacked by PCM........thats still done by vacuum.
