5sp gp
i know my fans are good but they aren't getting any power. i tried changing the relay but no luck what else should i check or change. :x
sonyman87
Check the fusebox? maybe you have a short inline somewhere. test that by doing a ohm test on the positive wire and frame and see if you get a reading with the car off. if so you have a cut wire somewhere. also. you might want to be sure to see what kind of voltage is going threw the line when the fans are suppose to kick on. If you dont have a custom chip only the passangerside fan will come on at 210* and the second fan will come on at ~225*? it also helps to know exactly the year of car and model
SigEpCutlass
thermostat not working :?: yea it helps to know what you're driving...
THe_DeTAiL3R
With the cold weather your fans shouldn't be turning on anyways.. If it's overheating you probably have a coolant issue or need a tuneup.
GPdriver1986
http://www.w-body.com/ecm-codes.html Do this... then see if your cooling fans will turn on when your in diagnostic mode. There are also 2 relays and are you going by the gauge/ idiot light?
supreme_style21
Both fans are inoperable? Or just one?
CuttySup
I'd definately check to see if your fans are even good.
5sp gp
it is 89 gp 2.8 5spd. it has only one fan. thermostat is brand new.
CuttySup
If it's overheating, the fan isn't gonna help much. You have a cooling problem that extends further than the fan. If there's no leaking coolant, I don't know what to tell you.

If it's overheating, the fan isn't gonna help much. It can most certainly overheat from not having a fan.. why do you think they're there? Make sure the fan itself either works or doesn't.. run the power directly to it or ohm it out. Otherwise it could simply be a coolant temperature sensor. SigEpCutlass
if they fans are working properly, the thermostat probably got stuck and you need a new one. Mine got stuck closed and I had to replace it.
digitaloutsider
I'm going to reiterate this: Are you sure it's really "overheating"? The fan won't kick on until 220.
5sp gp
if left idling long enough the gauge will goto 260 unless i shut it off. changed the fan, coolant tempature switch near the thermostat, computer, relay and the fan still won't turn on. so whats left, should i take a look at the harness? If you're getting to 260 the fan isn't going to do shit. You've got some other issue, like maybe a fucked water pump, blown headgasket, or you're sorely in need of a coolant flush. supreme_style21
The fans have a LOT to do with cooling! Ever had one go bad on you? The car will overheat faster than a fat lady on the sun. They do make a big difference. Doublecheck wires. And you're SURE the fans work when power is directly applied to them??
