3.4L DOHC oil down in the galley area where lifters would be

just wondering if the head gaskets could be leaking oil, or if its the plate thats down in the galley area, where the lifters would be if it was a pushrod motor.

im hoping its just that little gasket i gotta replace, and not the heads i gotta pull

also, the oil pump drive seal, ive heard you can just cut the lower intake bolt flange off and pull the distributor plug out and change the seal, will this damage intake sealing?

i dont want to do it if its going to damage the head, or make it a problem with sealing.

i just did this, i had oil in the same area myself, i attributed it to the o ring spiting oil everywhere.

as for the dist shaft i was going to cut that tab on the head but it seemed like a bad idea being so close to a coolant passage, i didn't want any sealing issues. so i ground off a little of the excess metal off the top of the shaft and pulled it up just enough to clean under it throughtly then i used some gasket-in a tube stuff to seal all around it. your best bet is to put some on one area and twist the shaft around to spread it nicely, then once its sealed up good bolt it back down and let it set up good before turning the car on again ( i let mine sit over night ), it worked good for me. i was leaking a nice sized puddle of oil every where i went now it stays bone dry everywhere. and i haven't used a drop of oil since.
