rshissler Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Well i just changed the anti-freeze and the thormastat(Spell?) and i might have spilled some anti-freeze on the manifold because now when i start my car up it smokes really bad and its coming from the pipe that wraps around the engine right where it connects to the manifold. Smells sweet like candy. So i thought it might be the anti-freeze. But it smoke right aways doesn't even warm up before it smokes. The car was sittin for a while maybe 6 days because im also workin on the inside. My old man told me it was just gas that was in the engine that isn't gettin burned right because the engine is cold and wasn't run in a while. Anyone Know what it is? Quote
supreme_style21 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 A sweet smell is anti-freeze. Should burn off fairly quickly if you spilled it. Otherwise you've got something leaking. Double check the housing and make sure everything sealed up. Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 When I flushed my coolant I got some in the exhaust head shields took about a day to dry out, and stop smoking. Quote

CuttySup Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Check your head gaskets. Have you been really hard on your car lately? Quote
rshissler Posted January 1, 2005 Author Report Posted January 1, 2005 No i havn't been that hard on the car. I mean it never did it before that i noticed untill i did the anti-freeze and its sat for about a week now it does it. Might it be from it being cold out and not runnin it? Quote
1990lumina Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 I'm sure it's just from it being cold and when you ran it it probably didn't dry totally... if it continues though, I'd start to look for some leakage as Supreme Style said - Jeff L. Quote
CuttySup Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Wait for some cold weather or when the engine hasn't been run like in the morning or something and pour some water on the area. The water will burn off quickly and it should wash away any of the antifreeze. If it continues to smell, you have a leak. Quote
