I was looking at my engine bay the other day and was trying to figure out a way to get larger amounts of cool air into my intake without relocating my battery. Has anyone ever thought about cutting the top of the air box and connecting an air intake hose into the front above the drivers high beam? their is plenty of room in between that light and the hood for air to come in. If you look at it the only thing in the way would be the hood reinforcement, which i would assume would not any problems if a 6" piece was to be cut off. I'm sure many of you have thought of that yet I hear about gutting the air box. I'm aware that the filter would become useless, but at the same time a cone filter could be swapped without much modification. Any cons to this? I don't see anything wrong with it, but would it be effective? the cut would only be visible when the hood is up, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see it. I just feel that thats the only spot to ad a ram-air type alternative to the fenderwell CAI which would problably be more complicated and time consuming to attach. plus it would be a lot cheaper and very easy to install.

How about making a ram air hood and make a custom ram air intake for it, it could be alittle expensive but you wouldnt haft to chop up your hood support and you will have a new look too...Although i don't know what kinda car your sporting :?

No.. I think it's posible to add it. I did mention that the filter would be useless.. therefore you could add a cone filter with some modification to the box. It is so simple. just some minor all-american

craftsmanship. I'm sure that the CAI is a more efficient just because they scavenge are more freely at the bottom of the car, but then again how much more water and dirt do you get down there? I had thought about the possibility of cutting a hole in the hood for air like someone said above

but that would take alot more work and if you don't do it right or disguise it right it would look nasty. Like i said, the idea of having to relocate the battery to install the CAI is not apealing to me, when the source of air is so close to my airbox.

Someone had an idea kinda like that but instead of choppin up the factory box he bought one of the bs cia's off of ebay, a 90* pipe, a 45* pipe, and two of those rubber pipe connecters. He installed the ebay CAI it extended to just about where the factory air box WAS. then he connected the 90* pipe, that ran the intake directly infront of the engin just below the dog-bone. then he ran the 45* pipe down infront of and about 3" below the exhaust manifold. slapped a cone filter on that puppy and WHAM! instant CAI. Hey he says it works great. the only thing is i think he had the 3100 not the 3.4 DOHC but the only dif would be less space to work with in the DOHC engine bay.

Damn I guess I'll have to try it.. unfortunately... I don't have the backing from aftermarket performance manufacturors, therefore I will have to build it myself. And if in the end it ends up all jackedup Ohhh.. well it only cost me $450. to buy this car. I'll end up rebuilding the airbox to fit a cone .. or I will fit a filter into the box.. I got a couple of K&N filters laying around from other "projects" so I'll see what I can ghetto Rig. Anyways... I never take my car to the track and have never ran it ona dyno so I will not be able to give you numerical facts, but I will let you know of any improvements have come out of it. I got an extra airbox outside just in case .

rig up some good ol' GM-RamAir like in the GA 3400 GTs

GA's ram air sucks dick, it has so many curves that it's useless, it really is just a marketing ploy to attract younger buyers.

Ohhh.. well it only cost me $450

That's why I love W's

That's why i think it's gonna work. the air would come in directly into the intake. the only problem I would have would be to make a custom filter to fit the new housing "design". By the way.. has anyone ever had their throttle get stuck? I was rushing to church and on a straight away i punched it and when I went to slow down.. well you know the rest. I threw it in neutral and the rpm's went flying. I gave it a few stomps and it finally went back to normal.. by the way how come when the vehicle is in Park the rev limiter...I'm guessing that's what it is.. doesn't allow it to rev over 2500 and when its rolling in neutral it can rev all the way I thought that was interesting.
