airbe5car Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Well....on my gf's newly acquired black on black 95 Grand Prix GTP 8) I am planning on getting her a CD player and I don't know if that would screw up the radio controls on the steering wheel or not. We really like them and would want to keep them in service if it's possible with a new CD player. I am not an audio savvy person so I don't know anything about installing a CD player and wiring, so any advice would be appreciated. I have a friend who can install it so I don't have to pay an assload at Best Buy Quote

airbe5car Posted December 24, 2004 Author Report Posted December 24, 2004 thanks Broan Gutless...I did a search and nothing useful came up. I'm not going to search through pages of posts that mention the word 'radio' or 'CD player.' I might as well just ask the question and get an answer right away. I know how to use the search function. DiscoStudd Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 http://www.logjamelectronics.com/stwhcoin.html I went with the Soundate Remote1.5v4 on my 95 Regal. Simple 3 wire hook-up, no programming necessary. You do have to mount the remote IR emitter directly beneath the headunit, though... Quote
airbe5car Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Posted December 26, 2004 thanks guys. Hopefully I can reason with my gf and maybe I won't have to buy one since they're kinda pricey... :? Quote
Oblivious Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 Hmm, they are a bit pricey. I think I've broken my tape deck in my Cutlass. I tried using one of those FM Transmitters to play tunes from my iPod, but it doesn't work too well. The only thing holding me back from just getting a CD player with an aux. in is the buttons on the steering wheel. Quote
jeremy Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 Hmm, they are a bit pricey they are well worth it in order to keep the controls functional.... Quote

It would suck to have the buttons be there but not do anything, and therefore it's pretty much necessary if one plans to upgrade the stereo. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 i never used the steering wheel buttons on my Cutlass...then again, they only worked half the time Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 ClubGP store used to have the SWI-X for a few bucks cheaper. That's where I got mine. Quote
