TurboZ24 Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Well, took the turbo wagon I helped a friend build. Got a much better result than I expected.... At 6 psi.... 229.1 Wheel HP and 261.7 wheel ft lbs Not too bad, eh? Quote
maybe2fast Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 any pics of this beast? is it a 6000 wagon? Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 It's actually a 91' Cavalier wagon. I think there are a few pics in the http://www.turboz24.com/Wagon directory. I have more too upload once I finish up my website. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 nice pics, talk about a sleeper!! what turbo is that btw? Quote
skalor Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Look really good!! What size turbo is that, looks like a T3/T4?? The downpipe looks really nice from the pics. 8) I talked to Al from NJ over the summer. He said you guys know each other as he's a J-body nut too. I meet him at a GP mod day, and we talked about older GM stuff the whole day. Everyone thought we were nuts because neither of us really like our '97+ plus w-bodies as much as our older cars. Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 It's a T3 .48 A/R stage 2 turbine with a T04E 46 trim compressor. I need too upload all the other pics I have of the setup complete. I was hoping for 250 wheel HP and 320 wheel ft lbs at 11 psi, not 230 and 260 at 6....... So, did better than I hoped. Quote
skalor Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 How does that spool, in terms of RPMs?? I'm tired of the T25 and I was looking at a GT2871R, but I also need a new clutch so I can't really spend $1000 on a turbo. Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 It isn't too bad. I'd have too check, but somewhere in the low too mid 2000 rpm range. Quote
Marcus18 Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 whats done to it engine wise or is it just a bigger turbo? marcus Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Basically a stock rebuild, federal mogul pistons, the only additional engine mods are ported heads, ported and match exhaust manifolds, and a turbo grind cam from Crower. It does have a better intercooler and larger turbo than a stock TGP, but otherwise, that's about it. Quote
mfewtrail Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Nice Cavi, nice #'s on 6psi as well. 8) Has he suprised anyone w/ that sleeper yet? EDIT: What type of engine management is being used? Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Engine management is simply a stock W Body ECM with a modified chip. I need too get the chip worked on, though. Quote
maybe2fast Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 do you work on the chips yourself? Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 20, 2004 Author Report Posted December 20, 2004 Actually, a guy I was helping with a previous turbo 3.1 Cavalier got the chip from someone (don't remember who). We never put it in his car (he damaged the engine, bad oil cooler line....) It doesn't idle correctly, runs rich at idle, lean past 5000 rpm, so I'm going too see if Jeff can help out with that part. I personally have a Haltech on my 91' Turbo Cav, so I'm not up on programming stock Memcals. Quote
TurboGTU Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Nice. See...you don't have to pump the shit out of it! . Well sometimes it depends..hehe. Excellent. Nice sleeper. whoes ride is it? That rich on idle can be the cam causing low vacume at idle..the map reads low vacume..and the ecm thinks the engine is loaded. Leaning out past 5krpm is the stock VE numbers on the chip. You'll need to rise them. Via a wideband and dinotune. Quote
TurboZ24 Posted December 28, 2004 Author Report Posted December 28, 2004 That rich on idle can be the cam causing low vacume at idle..the map reads low vacume..and the ecm thinks the engine is loaded. I don't think the vacuum is actually different at idle than the stock cam, but I'd have too check. Leaning out past 5krpm is the stock VE numbers on the chip. Was thinking it's the program, injectors, or the fuel pump. Have too check it out, but unfortunately I have no equipment too deal with stock ECM's, since I typically dump them on most of the other project cars I've worked on. The Wagon belongs too Steve here in Dallas. Here is a pic when we were at the track. http://turboz24.com/Wagon/DSCN0081.JPG Quote
