DiscoStudd
Today's lesson: Don't procrastinate when you hear your rear struts start to clunk. Get them suckers replaced ASAP!!! Ever since I bought my Grand Prix, the Regal's been clunking in the rear(driver's side) like the strut mount was shot (of course it starts this shit after I buy another car :x . ) So I've only driven the Regal once or twice a week 'cause I've been both saving up some money for new struts and clearing out some room on the ole credit cards so I can get the shit fixed. Long story short, today I drove the Regal to work and the clunking got progressively worse as I was driving to work. I looked over the car when I got there and nothing seemed unusual, I just figured the worn strut mount was making the noise from what I could see. I figured it was time to park the Regal until I get the new parts (KYB GR2's baybee!!!) Driving home, the noise was the same, but as I made a fast right turn near home, the car felt like it was almost fishtailing. I took 'er slow till I got home, and when I got out and looked, here's what I saw: The whole shaft broke off completely!!! I think when I rounded that corner, the wheel tilted out because a tiny bit of my outer fender is creased along the lip. Here's looking at the strut mount in the trunk: I could see the shaft in there this morning, so it had to have let loose on me on the way home. Luckily everything still looks okay (brake hose, e-brake cable, leaf spring, etc.) TireRack, get ready. I'm about to drop 5 bills on yo asses!!! DiscoStudd
Looks fimilar. Damn! It looks like we need to spread the word about this problem then!!! Well, I just figured on spending $395 (with shipping) for a complete set of KYB's, including mounts and boots (front and rear) from TireRack, and I'm getting the Suspension Techniques front springs from JC Shitney ($80) so I'll be in the $500 range just for parts. I think I'm going to go over to Home Depot and buy like a 12" length of 1/2" cast iron pipe to jam in there to hold the strut together so I can at least move the car without screwing anything up...
