ECM low-current self-reset issues...

Car: '92 Olds CSS 3100 (stock)

I installed a stereo in this car a short time ago and it's been acting up. Turning the stereo up will kill the car, no matter what speed/RPM/anything I'm at. The car is then a sitting duck, it will never start again for about 30 minutes (gets fuel, but no spark). After I let it sit for some time it fires up and goes on it's merry way until I turn on the stereo again. I've added a 4 AWG ground strap to ground motor to chassis, plus I'm in the prosess of getting a better battery to help combat this problem.

My question is: Does the ECM have a low-voltage shutoff/reset switch to protect itself? If so, what have people done to combat this problem? Or is there possibly another problem that is triggered from the stereo.

TIA
