Grand Moff Joseph
Ok folks, in all seriousness: Can a 3.1L be supercharged or turbocharged, AND still function reliably??

Guest TurboSedan
Ok folks, in all seriousness: Can a 3.1L be supercharged or turbocharged, AND still function reliably?? yes, just add all of the turbo specific parts from a Turbo Grand Prix engine to a NA 3.1 shortblock. it can be done for under a grand. it won't be as strong (pistons), but if you keep the boost low (< 8psi) i think it would be alright. i'm currently turbocharging my 227,000 mile 3.1L MPFI engine using TGP parts
Grand Moff Joseph
Sounds like a plan. Can I buy these TGP parts from a supplier, or do I have to scavenge them from a junkyard? Also, you mentioned that the boost has to be low due to the stock pistons. How hard/costly would it be to replace the pistons with the pistons from a turbocharged 3.1 block? How hard/costly would it be to replace the pistons with the pistons from a turbocharged 3.1 block? the TGP pistons have a reinforcing band that makes them stronger. i think the dish is the same though. you can order these pistons through Mahle. the TGP engine has 8.8:1 compression whereas the NA 3.1 has 8.9:1 but i believe that is due to the heads. Rebel GT is trying to sell everything needed for a Turbo 3.1 conversion. i'm not sure if he's already sold it or not, but check this thread: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22603&start=0 $500 is a pretty good deal for all those parts IMO.
