CuttySup Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 I got some super glue on my car door today (don't ask). Any tips on how to remove it w/out damaging the paint finish? Quote
White93z34 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 you could try heating up the spot and scrapeing it off with something or you could try nailpolish remover, however i'm not sure if it will or will not harn your paint Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 WD-40 i'd clean and wax over the area after Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 hair drier on low and peel it.. do NOT use a heatgun, or even keep the hair drier over the area too long. Quote
GP1138 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 do NOT use a heatgun, or even keep the hair drier over the area too long. I saw your personal experience with that one on your cardomain site Quote

Im not sure if this is true, but when we bought our 84 Monte SS, there's a spot on the hood where the paint and primer got eaten away and its just bare metal showing(maybe still a coat of primer?) and the owner said it was from nail polish remover. im not sure if that's the truth or not though. I saw your personal experience with that one on your cardomain site luckily that was only plastic, and it DID "buff out" was pissed as hell when I first did that though. after that I'd be really sketchy about doing something similar to a painted surface. i wouldnt do the nailpolish thing. I wouldn't doubt it.. I'd never let that stuff touch paint. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 nailpolish remover is acetone.... Quote
Robby1870 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 I used gasoline to remove the glue from teh pinstripe off my 92, then just cleaned it off real well, worked good. Maybe try that?? Im not sure what to tell ya! Quote
terryk2003 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 i would try wetsanding it with some 1500 grit...then buff with some 3m perfect-it compound! Quote
Brian P Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 WD40 first, then try lacquer thinner (provided your paint is factory) Quote
buckethead Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 try with the wd40 first because it's non corrosive, use a credit card to scrape it, DON't use nail polish remover because that is acetone and it will melt the paint right off your car. Quote
HokemBokem Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 do NOT use a heatgun, or even keep the hair drier over the area too long. I saw your personal experience with that one on your cardomain site Yea I saw that a while ago also. The same thing almost happened to me when I was trying to take off the gold olympic badges on the sides and back of my car. Good thing I thought about it first though Quote
CuttySup Posted December 1, 2004 Author Report Posted December 1, 2004 Okay, thanks for the suggestions. Now I guess I should let everyone know how iit happened. It's kinda stupid, actually. When I was pulling out of my garage I hit the side and tore off my outside mirror (luckilly that was the only damage!). Then I tried to reattach it. Quote
Grand Moff Joseph Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Ouch...sorry to hear that. But, as said earlier, the hair dryer trick is your safest bet. Quote

Wha??? I think someone's been watching too much CSI Miami. Acetone doesn't do crap to enamel. Quote

CuttySup Posted December 2, 2004 Author Report Posted December 2, 2004 I know that nail polish remover takes it off of your skin, and we're out of WD-40. I'll try it first on my mom's car Quote
