WhiteOut
My engine seems to have developed a new oil leak. I know for sure its not the o-ring one that so commonly plauges the 3.4's (the valley is completely dry), and I just replaced my leaky valve cover gaskets a month ago so I'm stumped as to where the oil is coming from. Its running down the back of the block and coming out by the transmission pad just like it was the o-ring leaking, but I have no idea what could even be leaking in that area besides the heads? Any ideas?
Intimidatorz34
Maybe the caps for the ends of the cam carriers.
5speedz34
Maybe the caps for the ends of the cam carriers. Has anyone ever heard of those leaking before?
WhiteOut
If it is the cam carriers the leak isn't in a visible place (surprising...no). Is this a common problem? The way it acts makes me believe it is gasket related becuase the leaking is way worse in cold weather, and stops completely when the engine is running. The problem is its getting worse and its making a hell of a mess.
Bossman429
Have you ensured that it's not the lower intake leaking Antifreeze? A lot of times when it works it's way to the bottom of the block it can be dirty enough to really resemble oil. Especially the orange dex-cool. Just my .02, we don't see a whole lot of 3.4 DOHC in the shop, their almost an oddity around here; but I'm sure most people around the forums know how our v-6's like to leak from the intakes. Though I believe the 3100/3400's were worse. Good luck
WhiteOut
Its not the intake gaskets, I replaced those last winter. Thanks for the input though. I may try using one of those die packs to see if I can find the source of the leak.
