89 CSI
I just aquired for FREE an '89 Cutlass Supreme International coupe with the 3.1/auto from my best friend/original owner, but it has a b/o trans. It has 218,000 miles, he's not a smoker, a feather-weight on the go pedal, has always had Mobil 1 since day 1, and all services done religously so I know it's a good car. What would it cost to get it re-built? Is there any shift kits that can be put in it? Car is perfectly straight, everything works but the trans. It has all the options except HUD. Anything else I should pay attention to before I go back to Texas and get it and drive it 1450 miles to here??
Regal_GS_1989
Well, Depending on where you go, and the quality of work that they do, I would say anywhere from 1200-2000$ to get it rebuilt. You may also be better off to try and find a bone yard tranny, or a cheap, parts car that has a good tranny and swap that one in. Also, you said that he was light footed, you might want to be carful when you start driving it. I've seen car that have been driven very lightly by one owner, then when soneone buys it and drives it harder, the engine will start giving you trouble. KING JOKER
i agree with regal. a rebuit tranny is gonna run your bill way up.218,000 miles is a lot on a w-body but the engine should be ok just as long as you don't abuse it. if i were you i would go to a junkyard and get a tranny just as good but less than half the price i would also rebuild the engine while you had your hands dirty but thats just me . nothing runs better than a rebuilt engine
SleeperRed90TGp
Just curious how your going to drive it 1450 miles if the tranny dosent work :?: Where in Texas. If near Houston Carls transmissions in Baytown is the only place to go. Jud

89 CSI
I was gonna either send my buddy the $$ to fix it out there or take my Ram out there and tow it here and get it fixed here. He's in Killeen. He's telling me that he can get it done for about a grand through his guy, who has rebuilt trannies for his other cars, 2 of which include his '67 4-4-2's (He has 6 of these cars, the 4-4-2's, and 1 is an ultra rare W-30 and the other rare one is a Turnpike Cruiser!!)
