Even one of the usual short arm intakes (Warm/Hot air) with the filter located near the crossover pipe will still make meaningful power gains (5+hp) once there is enough airflow (>30-40mph) through the enginebay to cool the incoming air.

However........

Below that, you are going to see NO gains and in many circumstances may see a power/torque loss..........a bad deal for the already launch challenged LQ1 autos (or LHO's and L82's for that matter).

This is why a proper cold air intake (something you can only build with a battery relocation on the LQ1's) is needed to extract useful gains on these cars.

At least the OHV cars have 2 options for CAI routing (one NOT involving a battery relocation)............

how would you do it without moving the battery?

you are some peice of work remember the gtps have the hood louvers and the cone sits right the louver on the drivers side thats why i cut the bottom of that one open so it can suck cool air in duh if you knew any thing about the grand prix u would have known that man geeezzz

HAHAhAHA....See how much that filter and your engine like rain water.

I dunno, my old GTP never sucked rainwater, even after I dremeled out the bottom of the vent on the drivers' side after I put a cone filter on it.

BTW, to the original poster, you won't get along here with that kind of attitude. Take stuff on the internetS with a grain of salt.

That username looks familiar. I seem to remember it in conjunction with a ClubGP thread... Anyone else remember that?

What do you do with the mas when you run a hai  lmao

sucking water raises compression=more performance

yeah something about how he ripped someone off.

Yes I'm pretty sure he was the guy ripping people off. I'll confirm it later when I'm bored at work.

well i'm sure he doesn't have the baffels off ALL the time...just when it's nice weather

so where are some pics??!?!?

I also remember that name. He did rip someone off at Clubgp and someone started a thread warning about him.

Anyway when I put on WAI on my Regal I lost a lot low end tourque. It wasent near as responsive when I first steped on the pedal. So I took it off and put my stock airbox back on.

I would route it from the TB down to where the stock airbox currently sits (just like WAI's do), then a 90 deg bend toards the CENTER of the car and go over the coolant hose to the block (or under it if you have a 3100), then bend down and have the filter sitting right on the AC lines just in front of and BELOW the front exhaust manifold (there is room as long as you don't have some ridiculous 9in cone :) ). This gives you a clear shot at air coming from under the car and should offer enough airflow even at LOW speeds to eliminate heat soak problems. It might also be a good idea to use something akin to a Ractice Heat-shield filter in this setup to help with radiated heat (the drawback of the Ractive filter is it has very limited filter area compared to other cones).

This setup also gives more pipe length helping out the possiblilty of one or more resonance spikes in the powerband...........and that's GOOD :D

The drawback?

It sits low, and will load the filter up with more road debris etc.............but so does my girlfriend's Iceman Intake for her Neon R/T, and it gets through rain storms etc just fine...........you simply have to be aware that puddle jump/snowbank hitting is no longer an option.

So..........a WAI style top bend (~60 deg?), along with 90deg and 45deg bends and a cone filter...........plus 4 couplers and you are there (and maybe some bracketry).

Questions?

don't do business with grandprix9292 (grandprix 9393 from clubgp.com) he Fd me over, harassed members both on and off the board when he was confronted with the issue, as well got himself banned there. Not a member to do business with or have around.

You can run but you can't hide

p.s. The hood louvers are designed to suck air out of the engine compartment for cooling. That is why the openings are facing the rear of the car.

Grandprix9292 doesn't know shit about cars, he's gone through 2 trannies, then blew up his car, and caused himself a heck of a lot of problems in his own life.

you obviously care, otherwise why would you post??

I'm just giving some advice, an opinion if you will.

Since this is a message board where people post opinions, I figured..... hey why not??

if you don't like it, I don't care, I'll still use a message board for posting messages.

thanks so much for the PA but nothing further is necessary. He'll be dealt with fairly just like if it was anyone else.
