pitzel
Ok, so I go to reinstall my alternator today, and there is a rear mounting bracket that seems to have worked its way lose and is no longer attached anywhere but my alternator: Where does that support/attachment brace, on a 1992 3.1L V6 engine, on the right-hand (facing the engine/alternator) side of the rear part of the alternator connect to? I am obviously missing a bolt on the other end, so it must connect somewhere.
GPXSS
it bolts to the rear head, the hole over the middle exhaust port. Ignore the stud I used, you will just use a bolt with a 13mm head.
kcac
Here's another view. This is from a 1990 Factory Service Manual. Looks to be the same.
pitzel
Weird, cuz mine totally wasn't hooked to anything. Would this have a significant effect on the overall alternator grounding?
Guest TurboSedan
no. i don't even use that brace on mine because i lost the bolt as well. mine hasn't had a brace for a LONG time
pitzel
Ok, so the dealer was nice enough to give me the required bolt. Hopefully my electrical problems are solved as of tomorrow; I already had to dissassemble my *brand new* alternator tonight because of crappy assembly of the voltage output terminal assembly. Thanks everyone. Beers all 'round
