ugh, what a mess, do yourself a favor, go to a junkyard and hack out a radio wiring harnas and splice it back in and go buy a $6 adaptor from wallmart and then install it.

if you need a radio wiring harnas for the car itself i can probably get you one.

Do you have the old radio with any wires left on it to see if there is any way of comparing?

I believe the orange is power, yellow ignition, and black ground.. but I could be wrong. The rest of the mess is the speakers. If you can figure out where they go, or what 2 wires go together then you could take a AA battery and put it on (+) and (-) on the set of wires to each speaker to figure out where they go..

I'd personally get a wire harness kit. That's what I did with my car and it was extremely easy. Mine came with some directions and also the adapter for the antenna.

oh boy oh boy.. I'd say just rewire the stock connectors back to the original harness, then go out and buy a 10 (15?) dollar connector at walmart and do the hacking on that.. plugs right into the factory connectors, and I believe all the wires on it are labeled in the instructions to easily wire them up to the deck.

finally got the problem figured out. There was no power cable. So my friend took hoooked up a wire from the battery to the inside of the car. and it worked! not the problem is that when ever i turn on my headlights sounds stops to keep coming out of the speakers. the cd player still starys on though.

anyone know what it could be?

thanks

there sure is a correct power connector in the harnas. unless you have bose, then it gets tricky.

but honestly why are you messing with all this crap when you could have it fixed correctly for very cheep. hell even if you have pitched the origional harnas you can grab what you need from any w-body in a junkyard.

Well, If you want a quick, cheap, easy fix. Take a wire, and run it to the radio fuse in your fuse box, and connect it to a fuse contact. Then run another wire from the memory wire (Constant power) to another fuse contact.(Test a few to find one that stays live when you tun off the ignition. Usually the one for the courtesy lights), and connect it. Then just ground the radio and hook up the speakers.

LOLOLOLOL

Dude, at least find where the firewall plug is and run the wire through there. And I believe you're supposed to use a larger gauge wire for that, along with an inline fuse! You're going to cause a fire!

That wiring reminds me of how I ghetto rigged my old Grand Prix's DIC, there were wires running up into the back of the radio plug, and the instrument cluster, LOLOL

:werd: I take it that you're powering the headunit off of that wire, and not an amp, correct? Look in your mess of wires where your hacked-out stereo harness used to reside for a yellow wire. That's the stereo's switched 12V+ connection (connect this wire to the headunit's red wire.) The constant 12V+ can be made at the orange wire, or at the cigarette lighter, which is also an orange wire (which should connect to the yellow wire on the headunit's harness.)

I agree with everyone else that you should go to the boneyard and get another factory harness plug (cut back about 6" of wires off of the harness.) Get some "butt-splice" connectors and a good crimping tool and attach the new harness to the hacked-up wires. When you're done, buy a harness adapter (from Wal-Mart even) to connect up to your aftermarket headunit's harness (using more "butt-splices.") It's all plug-n-play from there.

Damn!!!

I gotta give it to you, my friend, for having the guts cutiing your wires before figuring out what they do. You probably blew a few fuses on the way.

I'm glad cars come with fuse boxes, you would've had your car on fire otherwise already.

In the future, ask people for wiring diagrams before you cut anything or install anything.

When I read your message, I wanted to scan in the diagrams from my service manual.

But I guess, we learn the best from our own mistakes.

Actually, from what he told me over IM, his friend did that, and left him with it, or something. Still a boneheaded thing to do.

I'm sorry to hear that

I hate friends like that!

Alright,

if you are installing a Pioneer head unit (which it looks like you are), you do not need to run anything into your engine compartment.

all the wires are there.

first, disconnect your bettery negative cable or at least take out radio 10AMP fuse and ELEC 15AMP fuse.

I think your ELEC fuse is blown since you didn't find power in any of the cables. Check both fuses in any case.

Now the main wires:

The wire that will constantly have power is Orange

The ignition wire (it has power only when engine is started) is Yellow

Black - Ground (you have 2 of them)

Speakers:

Gray & Tan - Left Front

Dk. Green & Lt. Green - Right Front

Brn & Yellow Left Rear

Dk Blue & Lt Blue - Right Rear

Since some of the colors are duplicated, you should use a voltmeter (or a bulb tester) to mark off the power cables before you start the project. Just make sure the fuses are okay first.

When the car is running test the Yellow wire and the Gray wires. The speaker wires shouldn't have power.

You also have a Brown/White wire which you won't need.

A gray wire that will have power present when car is running, would be used for light dimming.

That's about it. Try to test the wires out first. Keep it nice and clean. Not ghetto rigging this time. As opposed to those crimp connectors, cross appropriate wires together and use electrical tape. The crimp connectors will rattle too much.

Good luck

well, if you're not gonna GHETTO RIG IT then i wouldnt recommend electirical tape either...solder the wires together and use heat shrink tubing over the connections

all the time you spent on this you coulda hacked a good harnas end out of a JY car, soldered and heatshrinked all the wires, wired the stereo up RIGHT and been content.

That's definitely the way. :)

I just didn't think our victim here would have all the stuff readily available.

 you're prolly right!...i just think electircal tape is kinda hilljack rigging...BUT, i think wire nuts are kinda ghetto...so, just use whatever you have available...just make sure you put something over the wires to they don't touch each other or touch a ground and short out...
