Justin
I've been running the CS like this for a while now, and I should really get it figured out. My cables are too short. More specifically, the pass. side cable, it's about 2-3" too short, and there is an extra piece of cable on the end to make up for it. Hard to explain, but it works. I've replaced the cables with ones I got from malibuolds (I believe) which were supposedly out of a W. I don't doubt they are, but they were the exact same length as the ones I pulled out. What I'm wondering is if there is a difference between the models, Prix, Cutlass, Lumina, as to where the shifter sat? That's all I can figure out, although I'm not even sure what kind of car either set of cables I have are out of. I know the ones that came in my car are not the factory cables. Guest TurboSedan
Justin, those cables came from an '88 Grand Prix. i will pull the cables out of my Cutlass this week and check them. i have the engine & trans out of the car, so it will be easy to take 'em out and measure them. Justin
Cool, I just can't figure it out. It almost has to be a different shifter position, but I don't know why they'd do that. I'll almost have to cut a new hole in the firewall to make up for the length difference, but then I get really close to the downpipe. brianteel
i just measured mine and it is about 55". It could be little longer
Guest TurboSedan
ok i just pulled both shifter cables out of my Cutlass. the crossover cable is 63.5" long. this is the cable on the passenger side of the shifter and controls the side-to-side movement. (this is the cable that is too short in your car right Justin?) the selector cable is 58" long. both of these cables worked great in my car. btw, i also have one oddball selector cable in my garage (the cable for forward-backward movement). it has the right ends so it would actually connect to the transmission and shifter no problem, but it is too long (62").
