introduction. and a question

pornstar

Recommended Posts

hi there, name's pornstar :) (seriously)

i'm a mod at splbassx.com and have a 4 door 94 buick regal custom

im heavy into car audio and compete in DbDrag, but ive never been much into cars themselves.

i just found out like 2 days ago that my car is considered a w body :) lol

anyway, i have had my regal for 10 years, im the original owner of it. a few years back, i fell victim to the infamous 93-94 gm bad primer problem, and all my paint started peeling off the car.

this past summer, my entire roof was solid rust, and my quarter panels had lost most of thier paint. in addition to the hood being completely bare, and the trunk losing paint. the only part of my car that still had paint was the doors.

well, in july i decided to re-incarnate the car. it's always been my favorite, and most comfortable ride, so instead of getting rid of it, i decided to breath new life into it. when i started that, i decided to also redo the sound system, and the interior.

i had never painted a car before, and had to take this one down to bare metal, and start from scratch. i got on the web, started researching, and in a few weks, i was ready to begin. (dont worry, ill post some pics at the end of this book)

anyway, i stripped and painted the car, gm white, with 2 coats of blue pearl over it, and 5 coats of clear. i like the way it came out. especially for my first paint job.

but, this winter i have some new ideas in store for it. including.. an upgraded flashier paint job, new interior carpet, shaved door handles, air strut kit, and a body kit.

therein my friends, lies the problem.

i can not find a body kit for a 94 4 door buick regal custom. apprantly they dont exist because it wasnt a popular enough car.

so, can i use a body kit from any other 94 w-body car?

ive noticed that a cutlass supreme is very similar to mine.

im sure nothing is goign to perfectly fit, and thats fine, because whatever i get will be molded in with fiberglass and bondo. so im at least prepared for that issue.

but, what body kit out there WILL fit my car, reasonably well. so that i only have to do some minor molding work? is there anything. ????

i feel perfectly comfortable making a somewhat suitable kit, fit the car. but i do NOT feel comforatble building a kit from scrath. ie trying to form body panels from my mind. i jsut dont think i can handle that.

so, ANY help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!!

here are some threads showing all that i've done to the car so far:

this thread is pretty much the entire car, from beginning to end. its 10 pages, so prepare yourself. ps: this thread is NOT for the high speed challenged computers :)

http://www.splbassx.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2158

this thread shows the rebuilding of the sound system, and the new fiberglassed sub box. again, my apologies to those on 56k

http://www.splbassx.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3052

and this final thread, shows the newly painted interior. all thats left for the interior, is a new main carpet, new floor mats, and a newly fabricated center console, cuz i cant stand the huge aftermarket dash kit.

so, if ANYONE has any idea of a place that carries a body kit that is even remotely close to being somewhat suitable for the car, i would REALLY appreciate it!

i am goign to start shaving the doors sometime in decemeber, and would like to do the body kit at the same time, so i can have it all prepped and ready for the new paintjob to be completed before mid february.

anyhelp would be eternally remembered :)

body kits are gay as hell. :fruity:

body kits = rice

rice = bad, not worth the shit out of my ass

paint job looks nice though. i think white sucks on cars but looks like you did a good job painting it.

personally i think something needs done about the side profile, its too plain some side skirts would do wonders for it.

not all body kits are rice, hell my car came with a factory body kit, and it sure dosen't seem rice to me. not sure what the regals have for them, but you should be able to work out something if your creative.

well, i dont care much for body kits either.. and i HATE ricers with a passion :)

but.. after i put the new rims and wheels on the car, there is just entirely too much wheel well gap. it doesnt look right at all.

in person, it looks like i jacked up the front end of the car

the only reason i'm looking for a kit, is to take away some of the wheel well, and to make the car hug the ground a little more in the front and rear.

i hate seeing a big ol rusty muffler and gas tank from behind the car, and from the front, you see the big ol black air flap or whatever is it, that sits below the front bumper..

i think SOME body kits can make the car look better, without being too gaudy and flashy.

i dont like white on cars either. but since it was my first time painting a car, i didnt want to mess with the door jambs. so i went with white again. but aded the blue pearl over the top of it, for a twist.

car sort of fades from white to cream to blue. depending on the light and the angle you stand at.

the new paint job this winter.. now that im more comfortable doing it, wil linclude the door jambs and will be a red/white/blue theme... but thats all i can say right now :D

If you're worried about the wheel gap, buy some drop springs for it. JCwhitney carries some for the front, I believe they're made by "Suspension Techniques." I'm sure others can chime in and tell you how much they will drop the car. There is also a rear lowering leaf spring available from Flex-A-Form.

BTW, I like your Regal the way it is, looks like ya' did a good job on the paint. I wouldn't do anything but lower it if I were you.

Careful putting that amp in the spare tire well. Our trunks tend to leak over time, and water gets in there. Make sure to seal up all the trunk seams first.

Edit: lol looks like you got that covered already.

Nice job on the paint! Want to paint mine next? I guess that's what my 95 Regal is going to end up looking like if I don't paint it soon (mine's white and the paint started peeling off about 7 months ago...) Welcome to the forum, always nice to see another Regal owner!

somehow this regal reminds me of a certain 4 door lumina that underwint a radical change to become a four door Z-34 :read:

maybe its the white paint and the 2 pair of doors?

im not sure if the regals went with the stock coil overs in the rear or not, but if so, get the eibach springs. If not, you can still do eibachs for the front and not use the rear springs, or you can get the ST springs for the front and get the coil over upgrade for the rears from http://www.fastfwdperformance.com. Body kits don't exist so you are looking at custom for that.

Looks nice.

i fell victim to the infamous 93-94 gm bad primer problem, and all my paint started peeling off the car.

It went until at least '96 as my white '96 in inflicted. My whole roof is primer and starting to rust. The primer is actually dissolving whenever it is wet.

thanks guys.

yeah, i had never painted a car before. i hit the forums, and started reading around the web. talked to a guy down the street who paints trucks (semi's) for a living, and got some advice from him. hit the auto paint store daily for a week or so, and finally just boguth everything i needed.

i even had to buy the compressor, tank, and guns lol

up close the car has a nice even coat of orange peel all over it.. i got tired of wet sanding, so i gave up and decided from here on out, its NOT orange peel, it's TEXTURE :) :P lol

that's part of the reason for the new paint job this winter, mostly to fix all the orange peel, and get a nice smooth finish on it. problem last time was that i waited a week to wet sand. by then the clear coat had just hardened too much.

as for lowering. i've been to 15 different shops. everyone of them tell me there are not lowering springs for the front, not even by eibach. and there is no lowering option for the rear, because it uses the uni-leaf which goes left to right instead of front to back.

the back is lowered good right now from all the weight... but, thats not the best way to do it either. i dont have springs in the rear, only the struts, and the unileaf.

but the springs up front.. i just read in another thread that i can use springs from a 94 monty and they'll work.. i've found a whole new excitement again!!!

i just wish i could find at least some side skirts to be able to mold in. side skirts at the vry least, would really help it.

anyway time to get ready for work. thanks much for the compliments. and i'm sure ill be a regular here. im a forum junkie, i run two of my own, and mod at another lol

thanks guys.

Here's a link to the spring you can use on the front:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/makeId-1000107/p-4817/c-10101/modelId-1001145

You can also replace the rear monoleaf with coil-overs from Fast Forward Performance:

http://www.fastfwdperformance.com/co.htm

Check out the main W-Body dot com site, there's a lot of useful info there, especially pertaining to springs: http://www.w-body.com/index2.html

Now, if you ever have problems with your signal switch in that 94, I've got ya covered: http://www.users.uswest.net/~ace69/column/94upsignal.htm

(I just had to sneak that one in there, seeing as I'm the expert on the 94-96 "saginaw" column )

If you want to cover over that worn-out steering wheel, get a WheelSkins cover from DC Car Care dot com. I ordered covers for my Lumina and Regal, and got extra laces to do the Baseball Stitch. Thought I'd drop that in there seeing as Brian P was giving you a hard time about that steering wheel  ...

wow that is one hell-of-a-nice paint job!! from what the car looked like, it looked like it was on its last legs. like the interior as well.

since there aren't any body kits for the regal, you can always custom make one from a honda and put an integra rear end on yours..... :leaving:

Welcome to the boards!!! i think you should get rid of that "rusty" muffler and put a custom one on :D

The car looks great!

I know what you mean about gap. Yes, there's definitely ways to lower it.

Basically anything that works on other W-bodies should work on yours. It looks like your tires are a bit on the small side as well which doesn't help the gap. I would probably go up a size in tire diameter and maybe go up a size in wheel diameter as well.

As far as a body kit... nothing out there, although I think a custom-designed body kit resembling what's on the bottom 1/3 of a 97+ Grand Prix GT/GTP would look real good.
