chevysmallblock
well, it seems that these cars have nothing in the way of go fast goodies. looks like you get what you get from the showroom and thats about it. so i'll stick to moddin my s-10. but anyway im curious, what kind of 1/4 miles time can a 3.4 z34 5speed put out, in stock form. Aaron
Stock? 15.1 @ 90 As far as bolt on goodies go? Well I ran a 15.2 at 7,000 feet, which is about a high 13 at sea level. So that goes to show it has some potential. But unfortunately the next time it will be at sea level is this Christmas, and it will be stock and in a former Fiero owner's hands
TeeJay3800
From the 10/90 issue of Motor Trend: '91 Lumina Z34 5-speed 0-60: 7.5 sec 1/4-mile: 15.8 @ 89.1 Braking 60-0: 153 ft. Lateral acc: .79 g's Slalom: 60.7 mph Price: $17,
Justin
1/4-mile: 15.8 @ 89.1 That's exactly what I got out of my '92 5 speed, 15.8. My tires are pretty trashed though, seems like I could squeeze a little more out of it. 15.1 stock???? For some reason I find that pretty hard to believe. Aaron
I've found 15.1 most of the palces I've checked. The numbers varied a lot though, and as they get older, they do get slower. GM rated it at 7.1 0-60, but they didn't haev a 1/4 mi. I think they can pull a 15.1 with optimal settings. Also remember, Motor Trend didn't start setting their cars to perfect settings until like 1996, before they ran them in Navada I think with no altitude, air pressure, or temperature conversions. Canada
15.1 is a bit much for an LQ1 5 speed to pull in stock form. I think 15.5@90mph is more likely with a solid car and a decent driver. Mine went 15.77@89.95mph (with a K&N drop-in) off of a crappy launch, so I think an extra 2-3 tenths are definitely there......... It's still 3-4 tenths quicker than a 4T60-E equiped car (and 2-3mph faster)
TeeJay3800
I don't know why people try to dispute magazine results. The magazine drivers test cars for a living, so they know what they're doing and I'm sure are better drivers than just about anyone else as far as getting the most out of a car at the track. I do agree that sometimes the magazines times seem a bit slow compared to what I'd expect. For example, a '91 GP STE 3.4/auto did a 16.5 @ 86.1 pass, also from MT. I would be very surprised though if that is caused by the magazine not converting the times to standard conditions and altitudes. I would say it's more because of the driver using less aggressive techniques in launching the car to better replicate the performance a "normal" driver might be able to get out of a car. It's interesting that MT's trap speeds are almost identical to your guy's times, but the lapse time is a bit higher.
EurosportZ34
15.1!!! wow....lol, that would be pretty tight actually 15.7-15.8 is what a stock Lumina Z34 runs, obviously a tad faster with the 5-Speed...everywhere that i've read or heard said the same
