kcac
If I shine a light ine vicinity betewen the throttlebody and the firewall, I can see oil puddling on the block (at least I think I'm lookng at the block). Would this confirm that I've developed the o-ring oil leak? It's a 1995 Cutlass with the 3.4 dohc, 65,000 miles on it.

Dan94Z34
Get yourself a Dremmel tool, an o-ring off a mag light, a shit load of hi-temp silicone, and a 12 pack. Then have fun taking it apart

Your best bet is to Pull Upper and lower intakes off wich is a job in istelf get a set of Felpro intake gaskets whileyour at it, (kit comes with 0-ring) and clean. Take off the hold down clamp clean around the 0ring cap lift as best as you can and clean under it with a flat object and some compressed air. I used some WD-40 to help get rid of builtup crap. dry it off apply High temp RTV under the cap and let it seal for an hour then you can tighten it down. It will help alot but its not permenat solution but will last atleast for another year.

I wish I would have know how easy it was. It would have saved me 50 quarts of 5-30. Really if you have any mechanical skills at all this is not that hard. And you can change the back plugs while you're at it.
kcac
I parked the car for the winter and will fix this in the spring. Thanks for the advice. I plan to do the plugs and the timing belt at that time, too. It will be interesting, because someone on this site posted a url where you could look up service bulletins. I found one relating to my engine that described a problem as "engine oil odor after an oil change", which is what happened to me. The fix is to replace the rear main seal. Now I'm hoping the o-ring is the only problem on the car [/url]
Dan94Z34
This is how I fixed mine removed upper intake. drank beer removed lower intake . drank beer removed hold down for the shaft used the dremmel tool to file down the lip on the shaft. drank beer. used break clean and cleaned area really well pulled up the shaft and fished the o-ring over the shaft, and posistioned between the block and the top of the shaft. drank beer. used hi-temp permatex silicon, and siliconed the crap out of it. reassembled the car. drank beer. let it sit over night to make sure the silicone was dry. drank the rest of the 12 pack. got up in the morning and started it with a hang over

fieromadman
I bought that fel pro gasket set... the o-ring in there is to be used with the distributor?? I thought that it might be for the coolent passage to the t-body? Am i getting confused?
WhiteOut
The o-ring is for the coolant passage on the TB, it will sit in a recess in the lower intake.
