Can I take a 1997 Buick Lsaber 3800 series 2 tranny 4 speed with od and put in my 1990 gp ste?

1997 is a bigger car width, weight & length.

Im asking because I may have a good tranny out of one for free and I want to use it when mine quits! I got a ride in the 97 it turns 1500 or so rpms at 70 mph does that sound right? The miles are around 100,000 or so and fluid is clean :D but the motor has gone south for the rest of its life  The person thought not changing oil was a good Idea  They were to cheap and said it was not needed! I hope this person has learned a lesson this time! because this is # 3 he has blowen up in the last 3 years 8) He just does not listen :(

thanks jeff

Doesn't the 1990 have the 4T60? Non-electronic. I don't think it would work without putting in the PCM from the Lesabre or modifying something...

1500 or so rpms at 70 mph does that sound right?

I don't know those engines or cars, but my 3100 does about 50mph at 1500. I would think it should be closer to 2000rpm but I could very well be wrong.

just to let you know, i went through the same idea with my 94 cutlass 3100, it has the 4T60E, and you can't even use another 4T60E unless it's from a W-body, it has to be from a W-body, I know this because i was gunna use a 4T60E out of a Buick Lesabre, though it's the same trans, it has different computer hook-ups, and different gear ratios, and even if you could get it to mount up and hook up electrically, the computer would think you still have the W-body trans, and it won't shift right or lock up, and you'll just end up burning that tranny in short time. I also could have had a free transmission, but ended up havin a real pain-in-the-ass, because my 1994 cutlass we eventually found out had a 1995 transmission in it, and the 94's mount different than the 95's, but the build date was in july 94, so i suppose they ran out of 94 transmissions, and started puting the 95's in, yet GM didn't bother putting a sticker or anything anywhere on the car, and the tag was messed up the code on the transmission kept showing up as a bonneville, so i don't know what the guys at the olds plant were smoking that day, but it must have been something good. my point is don't try to use anything but a W-body trans thats the same model trans as yours or ur just gunna end up with a huge headache, and i don't know about where you live, but around here W-body 4T60E's are very hard to find, i called over 30-40 salvage yards and found 4.
