FStang1969
:x I got my Lumina 3.1 w the 3spd about 6 months ago now and have just recently started having problems w the transmission. First through third are OK and the lockup works fine, but reverse seems to be slipping a bit. Not much, but enough to freak me out completely as I've already put a ton of money into this car and really don't want to have to rebuild this transmission. I'm scared to death to flush the fluid, but I'm also wary of additives. Anyone else had this problem and what would my best course of action be, as I've had nothing but horrible luck w GM transmissions as a whole (nothing against diehard GM fans, they're still great cars)
pitzel
What does the fluid physically look like?
FStang1969
fluid's kinda crappy, looks original. that's part of the reason I'm scared to change it, it probably hasn't been changed in 120k miles
DaveFromColorado
If you change the fluid, switch it to type F - it will help hold the clutches tighter durring gear changes, plus it will keep them from slipping anyhow. --Dave. mihela816
Reverse always slips after a while on 3 speeds. Mines done it since i bought it and hasn't got any worse. Use Type-F like Dave said, it will help.
GP1138
LOL. I just bought a Lumina 3.1/3-speed, and I got it for $200 because reverse was totally gone. I haven't had to use it yet. It just makes it kinda hard to park. I plan on eventually putting a 3.1/4T60 in there.
