firefighter_0029
Here's the deal I have a 1990 Buick Regal Custom with the Gran Sport Package with a 3800 Series I. Car Ran fine exept when you punched the gas.The car would shudder with the SES light giving me a Code 41 (Cam Sensor Circuit, On a 3.1 engine it's the MEM-CAL.) According to my GM Service Manual. Ok the Car ran fine If you didn't get on it to pull a hill or pass a damn Ford.(That pisses me off usually when theres a Damn Grandma I'd floor it and my head would hit the back of the seat and I'd fly by her doin' 90) Instead the car would spit and spudder and then take off but with the power of a 4 cylinder. About 2 weeks ago:I put $300 in her. Spark Plugs, Wires, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, PCV Valve, Oil Change, Cam Sensor, Oil Pressure Sensor (It was leaking), Valve Cover Gaskets, Took the A/C off needed a smaller belt. Still wouldn't Start So I went to the Bone Yard and grabbed an Ignition Module and Coil packs. Car Started right up but thats when it gave me a code 41. So yesterday I took the Ignition module and ECM out of my 1992 Regal with a 3800. The 92 Started right up with all the 90 parts on it with no SES light or anything. Now the 90 won't even start. Try cranking on it and stop and the Fuel pump runs for about a minute. (I thought I was the damn power ant. but It was the fuel pump) Anybody got a clue??? Now I believe Turbys gonna say something about this. I know but the damn thing is too close to the house to torch so I gotta get It running. firefighter_0029
I was thinking of that actually. But would that make the fuel pump run and throw a code 41?
midnight rider
Look for wiring problems like a loose harnes plug or corrosion would be my guess. Its unique, i'll give it that much.
Baddflash
ECM??? Harness.
DaveFromColorado
yeah, if the ECM harness is corroded, or loose when you hit the gas, it'll cause the motor to shift enough that it'll pull on that one wire, or on that one harness enough to cause a problem with that one or two wires - I'd suggest pullin' 'em all apart, lookin' at 'em, and putten' them back together one at a time, maybe a TOUCH of dielectric grease (not much, just a tiny lil' touch of it) --Dave. bartonmd
it cought my interest that you just replaced the cam position sensor, and it's giving you a cam sensor code... try plugging and unplugging the connector to the Cam position sensor a couple times and see what it does... if that doesn't help, try either your old cam pos sensor again, or buy another one and see... I would guess it's related to the CPS since that's the error code you are getting and you just replaced it... also, make sure the wires aren't on the exhaust manifold or anything. firefighter_0029
Don't listen to that damn turby. I replaced the wiring harness to the cam sensor, crank sensor, and ignition module. Now the damn thing won't even start again. :dammit: I tested my crank sensor as the shop manual says to. Says its good but on a 3800 the crank sensor tells the ignition module when to fire on all cylinders not just the #1 cylinder like the 3.1. But it's such a pain in the ass to get it off so instead of cleaning it, for $30 i'm just going to replace it. I did some research for about 2 hours got it narrowed down to either the crank or the knock sensor.

firefighter_0029
I got the crank sensor replaced. Now the car will stay running at least but still seems like the timing isn't advancing. Serious spark knock or backfire not sure which when you open it up. I'm not sure if it took out the ignition module or if theres a fowled plug or what? This friggin car is driving me nuts and making me broke.
