i would strongly advise you not to go to macco cheap paint and it peels withing months. look in the yellow pages and actually check out the shops work. go to them and look at their work or ask around and find a good painter.

you can go to macco, you just have to either pay up the ass for a decent paint job or do ALL the prep work yourself as well as sanding. I would just go to the local trade school or community college with a program and all u pay for is paint. It'll take longer but well worth the savings. I paid $4500 for a paint job and lots of body work, did i pay too much yes, insurance paind a littel less than half though. I would learn yourself how to do bodywork and spnd a lil time filling dents and taking stuff apart so you can just drop your car off and have it sprayed and then take it hame and put the interior back in, moldings on, etcc. Hmmm Maaco is by far the Walmart of bodyshops.

You can get a real cheap paint job... but it's what you get, CHEAP.

Also you can pay for an expensive paint job and get less than what you pay for since for the price they charge you could get better quality elsewhere.

Besides ... what can Walmart sell that is worth buying.

Going to a vocational school or college with an automotive program is def. the cheapest way to go... and they usually do a pretty good job. After all, these are the people who go on to do this for a living at quality places. Only problem is, a lot of times there's a huge waiting list for them.

Don't go to Maaco. Maaco sucks, they don't mask properly. They use shitty bargain basement paint. They charge you up the ass if you want clear coat or proper prep. If you don't pay for the xtra stuff, it starts to chip. Not to mention, the orange peel on a Maaco paint job is absurd, like they use the shittiest sprayers on the planet.

Groceries, Mobil 1 oil, and that's about it.

It's funny because the only thing I could think of is Pop, Chips, and Car Fluids. :)

Before I could paint I once took a mustang to maaco, I did all the body work and prep before I took it there. It actually turned out alright, It wasn't perfect, They didn't blow it off very good and there was some sand in the paint, left over from sandblasting. I didn't keep it that long so I don't know how it held up long term.

Look for a mexican run shop. I'm not being racist here, so hear me out. Most of them specialise in creating the best paint job for the buck and they tend to do so at a discounted rate. If you want custom work, they can do it as well. When I went to arkansas a few years ago, there were a lot of shops run be mexicans that specialised in $175 paint jobs and most of them had cars in the lot to prove their work.

when you check in to a shop, go look at some of thier work first before you chose them. If you see flaws in there work, don't use them.

Look Maaco uses PPG (usually ProStar) paint just like the rest of the paint shops do. The only difference is prep work. If you want a good paint job from Maaco, do ALL of the prep work yourself (even masking). Yes, your paint will start peeling if you don't, BECAUSE THEY PAINT OVER THE OLD STUFF. So, do the job properly, and you'll get good results.

Digital is right, do your own prep and take it them in a compatible primer. You can also tell them your with a dealership and get a discounted rate. When asked for a d-number, give them the number of a local used lot and tel them you work for them and the car was a trade in. Make sure you give them your phone number for the contact number though...lol

I repainted my car at Maaco about 2 years ago and i had to prep my car by my self because if i didnt do it they would paint all over moldings, lights and they still went over tires, glass and their paint sucks i wont recomment it to anybody and next year i have to repain it again becuase of this cheap paint already loosing color and loosing shine and its fading. Now this time i am going to buy a good paint and do it myself

Do you not understand what it takes to prep a car? You COVER EVERYTHING. You don't just sand and prime. The car MUST come in completely covered. If you don't want it painted, make sure it's protected.. end of story. As for the cheap paint, I've seen only good results from Maaco when the prep is done properly.

Considering most of Macco's costs are for prep time... if you bring a car to them already prepped you should have an even CHEAPER job. Painting the car doesnt take as long. So lets say time to complete job is 100% - Painting is 20-25% - Prep is 75-80%. They budget their time for this and if the prep time is exceeding this budget ... they drop everything and move on since it cuts into profits. Also the materials for prep time are budgeted. So if 'Bill' in the prep shop uses all 5 of his sheets of sandpaper on the front end ... thats it for the front end.

I took a car to Macco and had it out with the owner about the shit job they did and the final cost that was demanded from me. They spent all their time on the hood and left dings in the rest of the car.

Choosing a good body shop is as easy as inspecting their facilities. A clean shop thats well taken care of is a sign that the final output will be good. Samples of work and quality of cars is another sign.

If you lived upstate by my old place, I'd recommend Apple Auto Body. They aren't cheap, but they work wonders. Especially with matching paint colors on old cars.
