Opinions on turbo kits and usage of the 3.1L in a Euro

In the future I'm going to rid my Euro of her slow-ass 3.1. But if I could get my hands on a 3.1 Turbo or even the setup for the Turbo I wouldn't mind keeping the 3.1 in there. I know the 3.1 Turbos are very rare, but is there an after market setup that would give my n/a 3.1 similar performance to the 3.1 Turbo?

Else I'm going to have to goto the DOHC world!

as in a turbo kit? or a built n/a kit?

for either one I'd say very unlikely but even more so for the turbo kit.. you'd have to piece the whole thing together.

Brad, I gave you your own topic so others will better see your question, and be more likely to answer it, and those in the future better able to see the results if they share similar interest, and might find more of the info you need if they proceed.

As for the topic, no known full kits other than a few companies in the past that tried, not sure if they are around and I can't even remember their names, but a search on the Net might bring them up. There ARE enough important differences with the TGP engine that you need to get a good share of it to be successful, initial testing at McLaren showed the stock 981 crank would not handle the 200 or more hp so you have to at least start out with that. But not matter what approach your find, you will have to have some time, funds, patience and the skills to be successful!

Good luck!!

i'm doing that right now actually. i'm bolting all of my TGP parts onto my 227,000 mile NA 3.1. i think 8psi is probably as high as i would go....if (when) it blows....so be it :D

meanwhile my TGP 'V' engine will be getting rebuilt over the winter/spring.

On the ecm control..thats going to be easy.

On the hardware..well thats the challenge.

How much were you looking into spending on a homemade turbo?

My bolt on TGP system cost me about $120. I got luck though.

If you could find a TGP x-over or Get a J&M studios x-over  ..that will cut fab work alot.

Then the turbo..a t2 unit. Some guys here were selling theirs. Look on ebay for DSM guys selling their costom t28s cuz they favored a big snail.

Down pipe could be fabed easy cuz the WG is intergrated into the t2 housing.

Injectors...well just get new ones. 24lbs Accels for a 350 LT1 or TPI.

Fuel pump..90 Corvett or walbro 190.

Rear manafold..Well some guys that did costom work blocked off the down pipe.

Intake pipes..well Home Depo is a good place for bends and pipes  .

A good front mount IC would be nice. The Thunderbird SC IC would be good if you had your hands on a TGP radiator or a Volvol radiator(not too sure yet...I'll measure).

my 111,000 TGP engine complete with custom hole in piston #6 cost me $350. it included the radiator, IC, wiring harness, crossover, downpipe and everything but accesories and turbocharger. i got lucky and found a TGP T25 turbocharger and an extra crossover pipe for $35 on the turbododge.com forum.

wow...thanks guys for the info. i think that i might just get an actual 3.1T (edit: just a mention, that would be a VIN Code V for the turbo/JeffM) for all the "custom" work that i'd put into making mine turbo'd. keep the suggestions coming! :D

it won't be any time soon that i'd be doing this either. late next year at the earliest.
