tloftus
My buddy has a 96 Grand Am with a 3.1 and I need some tips on removing the CPS. I thought of removing the oil pan to help gain access to it, it's just too damn far up there and my hands are too big I guess. Anyone provide any tips who's done one of these before? Thanks, Tom
slick
That would probably be the easiest way. I know I can remove it on my 3.4 without removing anything, but thats the benefit of having small hands and arms.
Canada
Manual transmissions help too! You might want to try taking the coil packs off and going at it from the top.
slick
Yeah, having a manual proves helpful too.
tloftus
lol I have the manual. It says to take the bolt out. It doesn't say what kind of monkey you need to get in there. Coil packs is a good idea, thanks. Any others?
White93z34
it looks fairly easy to get it in and out if ya got tiny hands otherwise droping the oil pan is probably the second easiest bet.
tloftus
The 2.8 in my beretta and 3.1 in my cutlass were both easy to get to, something about this 3.1 in the 96 there's no space there at all.
Canada
If its a 1996 V6, its not a manual transmission....
tloftus
Well guys, here's the verdict. After getting all the oil pan bolts out and the POS not moving at all -- we got it in / out through the wheel well. That's right, reach right in and have your buddy under the car telling you where to go / hand you tools and you can do it in 10 minutes. Merry christmas.
