gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 My sisters boyfriend rearended a truck with her 94' GP on Saturday and messed up the whole front end and bent the hood. The impact wasn't hard enough to deploy the airbags though. The car still runs and was in near mint condition before the accident inside and out. I'm going to look at it tommarrow and hopfully get it towed to my place. Even though its not my car the whole situation really got on my nerves and I ended up having a fight with her boyfriend today. My sister is really upset she was very attached to the car, I think she shouldn't have let that dumbass drive it in the first place. I should have pics tommarow Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I'd say as long as none of the frame work is damaged it's easily salvagable.. it's once you get to that point the price to repair is really going to be jacked. Otherwise it's all fixable in a few junkyard runs. Quote
Aaron Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 If it didn't set the airbags off then it is definately not totaled. But be careful, they are very sensitive post accident. In the fire service, we have had more than a few go off while we were messing with the car after an accident. Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 I've never been in a situation like this before, what if the insurace co./collision center say it would cost more to repair then what the cars worth, will they automatically total it? Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 I'd say as long as none of the frame work is damaged it's easily salvagable.. it's once you get to that point the price to repair is really going to be jacked. Otherwise it's all fixable in a few junkyard runs. Thats the other thing, me and my brother were thinking about repairing it ourselves if the insurace co. totaled it because of high repair cost (as long as the damage was only cosmetic). But she has the mini quads with the b4u package and we have no local junkyards that carry those parts. Also I was looking on a webpage and just the front bumper skin from a non b4u gp go's for $200  Quote
Kalgorn Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 If the cost of the repair is higher than the value of the car it is immediately totalled however even if the cost of the repair is less than the value of the car it can be totalled. There's a margin under the value of the car that it can still be totalled. I think it's about 75% of the car's worth. Quote
White93z34 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 gotta see pictures to say for sure. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I've been in this situation too many times. Yeah they usually total a car if the damage is 70% of the replacement value. But that figure all depends on your insurance company and whether or not they require new parts. My insurance company, for instance, will NOT pay for used parts to be used. This will obviously raise the cost of fixing. Chances are, if it is a 1994 with assumably higher miles, kiss it goodbye. It doesn't take too much to total these cars. If they do, you will have the option of buying the car back, usually for the price the insurance company feels it will get from a yard/wholesale salvage auction. This part I am not entirely sure on, as we've never bought one back. Quote
excelsior Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 i wanna say no......but i know that it wont be hard to total it....is it just structure damage? Quote
supreme_style21 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 You've gotta think of all the little shit that adds up. Fenders, hood, braces, clips, headlights, supports, paint... There is enough stuff under all that sheetmetal and plastic that can be damaged, yet not be seen until you start digging into it. I have no idea how BAD it is, but just a generalization. Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 The metal part of the bumper is all bent up The front end :x Under the hood the drivers side brace is bent along with the thing it attaches to (witch is welded on) it also caused the drivers side dogbone to push in alittle. Heres a close up of the front end the hood and latch are so messed up it wont close at all. I drove the car home today about 15miles and it ran and drove perfectly ofcourse I had to tie the hood shut first :? Quote
sl3196 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Pics don't work. Edit: Pics work now Quote
slick Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 2 of the 4 pictures work. Doesn't look bad, should be repairable. Quote
jeremy Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 part it....I would refuse to drive a car that had that much damage from a wreck, repaired or not....the car will never be the same... Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 After driving it I think it could be repaired, there was no differance at all in how it drove then and before the accident. Even if it wont ever look as nice again I think it would be a big mistake to total it. Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 If the insurace co. totals it the next problem is gonna be finding a b4u parts car in the junkyard or else where. I have yet to see one at any of my local salvage yards. There are a few 94+ sedans and alot of base model coupes. Quote
gimp19 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 I bet insurance totals it Thats what I'm thinking its right on that fine line though. I'd hate to see such a good car go to waste makes me sad Quote
terryk2003 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I bet insurance totals it i'd have to agree...insurance company's are a JOKE!... Quote
Robby1870 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I bet insurance totals it i'd have to agree...insurance company's are a JOKE!... well, if the repair quote is 70% of the cars "value" its technically totalled Quote
WhiteOut Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 That car is without a doubt totalled. A new front facia and header panel alone will easily run into the thousands of dollars, add the possiblity of a new radiator and front end work on the steering and suspension and that car is as good as toast.
