Darksyde
Ok here we go....it's a 91 Z34...3.4 obviously. When i hit the brake pedal the dash lights would dim.....as well as flucuate the idle of the car. Sometimes when i hit the brakes while driving it will almost kill the car to the point where my radio will go off and on again. Last night while backin into my driveway i hit the brakes and the dash lights, radio, headlights and service engine light kept flickering on and off and the car almost died....Now alot of things point to the alt. The alt. is brand new. Tested and tuned about 2 months ago. The only thing i have done different is i installed 8 of the high intensity super bright 3157 bulbs in the rear lights. Could this be drawing enuf power to do this? I mean it does happen when the brake is applied. And last night i was in reverse. So the b/u and brakes were on. Please any idea? This is really fugged up. Well it did it in park to me today......so i have no idea. I gotta hook up my works comp to it...but trying to get some ideas first.... EurosportZ34
that sounds wierd man. you got a ud pulley on? i noticed some lack of accesory power with mine on. you got a system? cause that would drain some power as well.
jeremy
I would check the alt. again.....they can go without any rhyme or reason no matter how new they are....
Darksyde
No UD pulley, big stereo...however i have a master cut-off for the system and it's off. So i'm gonna be so pissed if i gotta mess with the alt. again.
sonyman87
if the check engine light is pull the code 2nd check your BATTERY your altinators job is to charge the battery. if there is hardly anything left to your battery your basicly running on your altinator which would cause that dimming at idle... test your voltage witha multi meter, with the UD pulley installed yo will see about 12.3volts at 800rpms, 13.8volts at 1000rpms and 14.1votls at 1200rpms -7000rpms. [edit] ok you dont have an UD pully so see ifyou get 14volts when the car runs if so then your altinator is working fine. Ifyou can get 14 votls take the car to autozone and get a free battery test
99RegalGS
you have ABS? If you do, it's the PM3 sucking power for the pump.
Darksyde
if there is hardly anything left to your battery your basicly running on your altinator which would cause that dimming at idle... It dims even when i'm driving....whenever i use the brakes is when it really dims. When the headlights, turnsignal and brakes are being used it fluctuates the RPM's. WhiteOut
I had that problem. Voltages would fluctuate on their own, and use of any power accessory would cause major issues like stalling or irradic gauge movement. At any rate I had a short at the auxillary positive battery terminal, so I cleaned that up as well as the battery connections and I've had no problems since then. Darksyde
At any rate I had a short at the auxillary positive battery terminal, so I cleaned that up as well as the battery connections and I've had no problems since then. Well thank you. It turned out my aux. battery terminal was far from being tight. I dropped my new battery in the car which i already had and it started up even worse than before. This time nothing would even come on. So i went out and wiggle the + cable to the aux terminal around and everything came back on. So i tightened it down and bam i have no problems since all day. So thanx alot man i appreciate all the responces and feedback. I guess you can't remember to tighten everything when doin a motor swap right? slick
Man, you guys are lucky, it being your battery terminals and all. Mine still isn't running right.....
WhiteOut
My suggestion to you is to go start your car, open the hood, and proceed to wiggle every piece of wiring you can untill it makes a differance in how it runs. Thats how I found my problem.
