I believe GM sells a cam, and I think its Crane cams that also has a cam too. I'd also upgrade the rockers. As for the heads, shave them, port and polish, and 3 or 5 angle valve job. I'd then put the 3.1 intake manifolds on the car, with a bigger TB.

Not much you can do to make a 2.8 a sleeper without spending an assload of money into custom work..

You can however swap the heads/intake/exhaust manifold from a 3x00 engine. But it would probably make more sense just to drop in a 3100 or 3400 in the first place....

Are the 3.1 intakes bigger than the 2.8s? I didn't think they were, and a 2.8 plenum would make it more of a sleeper than a 3.1 plenum.

the best mods for 2.8 would be to put in a 3.1 crank. I beleive the rest of the block (and motor) is pretty much the same.

To me if I had the money there would be 3 options: (add the crank to all of them)

Easiest:

3x00 top end swap. Bigger TB

Modest:

Make it into a turbo 2.8 (3.1 with the crank)

Hardest:

Turbo 2.8/3.1 with 3x00 top end swap (getting all the ports to match). I belive one guy on 60degreeV6.com has a Blazer or something along those lines with a 3100 (or 3.1 w/ 3100 top end) turbocharged that runs 13s.

Why would you want a 3.1 crank in a 2.8 turbo motor. The 2.8 crank will rev much easier.....

more displacement, more torque

more torque offsets the loss of rpm's.

drive a modern 4 cyl, and then drive a 350.

...wow.

Put a 3.1 crank in a 2.8, do me a favor. Then start it up, slam the 2.8 pistons into the heads and junk the car and unsubscribe. Anyway:

The best cam for an otherwise stock 2.8 would be the crane H260/ the same as the one thru GM (and a little cheaper) or the crane compucam (2030) would work too but it's not much different than stock. If it were me, I'd buy the H260.
