supreme_style21
This was a pain in the ass to remove from the column and I can only assume a pain in the ass to reinstall. Do I NEED it hooked up?
DaveFromColorado
that's the ignition lock cable, you can bypass it if you want, but just make sure you're able to shift it still. without that part, you can shift out of park when the keys are out of the car - not really a benefit if ya ask me. --Dave. supreme_style21
Cool. I say screw it. It doesn't get hooked up.
DaveFromColorado
just make sure you can shift outta part without it, I can't remember which direction the cable travels to unlock the unit, otherwise just rig it up so it's always free. --Dave. Brian P
keep it or bypass it. Never got the chance to install in my '90 Cutty. I'd say do it just so your install is complete OEM. It's maybe a half hours worth of work. But if your interior's already back together then forget it.

When I removed it, I was blindly working with it, so I'll be damned if I know how it goes back in. The interior is back together for the most part, but I still need front seats, so its together enough so that I can drive the car. On a side note, how do I remove the column shifter? Hopefully I don't need a new column. I'm thinking I'll grab a new cluster and dremel the fawker off.
DiscoStudd
I think you will need to get the ignition switch from a console shifted car to be able to hook it up properly. Just from my quick observations of both of my cars (1 column shifted, one console) when I had the signal switches out in each, I'm not sure the column shifted ignition switch had the provision to run the interlock cable... I think I felt that secondary cable up in the column.. But the more I think about it, I don't think it is. If I have to start swapping ignition switches, I'll just ghetto rig it. The chance of someone else owning this car is next-to-none, so as long as I know how it works and it looks OEM, I'll be content.
Brian P
there's 2 tiny screws that hold that black housing onto the top of the 88-93 column. you'd have to remove the 2 column bolts closest to the steering wheel and loosen the 2 near the firewall (or just remove those too, even easier) remove the top column plate, and it sits under there. My description of where it exactly would go is worthless without pics.
supreme_style21
Yeah I know the general area of where it came from... I took it out of a Monte Carlo that had been rolled hardcore, so I had all I could just to get IN the car to get all this stuff out, much less wiggle myself underneath the column to see where it came from. If I get some ambition one day, I'll start tearing it apart again.
grandprix9292
if its not hooked up the key switch might not let you turn the key back to the acc mode so just watch for it
