Stevo Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Hmmm I had to replace rear brakes on my 93' International, Pads and Rotors. A day before I did so I noticed that my emergency brake light on my dashboard stayed on dispite the fact that the emergency brake WAS'NT on. I hauled the mechanism out to see if the thing was loose (great fun doing this too ) only to find out the damn thing is completely riveted together and even with the wire off the switch the light remained on. I only replaced one disc and set of pads on the bad side but still need to do the driver side as the caliper sliders are toast. Any chance that somehow this is making the light stay on? I can't see any reason for this to happen. My 88' Cutlass sure didnt have this problem... then again it doesnt have ABS. Is there some standard misshap with the light that I dont know about? Thanks in advance for any help. Quote
NORBI Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Check the switch right on the brake pedal might be stuck. Quote
Baddflash Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 That light also tells you if your brake fulid is low, i believe. Take a look at the fluid level or the connection to the sensor. With ABS it may also signal a fault on that light too. Quote
z34_nut Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 brake light usually stays on when you have a hydrolic pressure failure, or fluid is low (but i don't think w's are equiped with low fluid level sensors) it only doubles as a PARKING brake light, if you know your parking brake is dis-engaged, then its a hydrolic problem.
