Guest Anonymous
would an n/a 3800 series 2 directly bolt into my 92 GP 3.4L? what kind of custom modification would be required?
Brian P
custom thread relocation at least!
THe_DeTAiL3R
No. Computer and wiring probably being the main issue. Stick with a 3.4 or get a 3.1 if you are worried about working on it..

DiscoStudd
Here's how to make it work: Get an entire drivetrain (motor and trans) from a 96 Regal with the 3800. Get the entire harness, PCM, accessories, axles, the whole works. Not only will it bolt right in, but with a little ingenuity, you can wire the harness to plug right up to your firewall's connector (don't ask me how, that's up to you to figure out.) I'd go bug the guys over at l67swap.com on how to wire it all up... If you really go with the L36 (GM-speak for the n/a 3800 Series II) be sure to get the revised intake manifolds (upper and lower) and replace them before installing the engine in the car. The older design had a larger EGR tube in the lower manifold which melted the upper (plastic) manifold. The newer design has a smaller tube in the lower manifold, and a larger passage in the upper... digitaloutsider
Let me reiterate what I said in the 284 thread.. [takes a sledgehammer and smashes it into my face, falling on the floor bleeding] Do you HONESTLY plan on EVER touching that car? If so, I'll shut up, and we'll plan a day sometime to go up to your house and FIX that fucking thing, swap an engine, transmission, WHATEVER. I'll even drive from Georgia. Unless you're serious about tearing into that car, please refrain from the threads..

Guest Anonymous
Yes, there are plans under way to fix the car, i just cant do it until the spring when I am out of college. Someone here is parting out a 94 SE/b4u with the 3100, im thinking on looking at how good the engine is in that piece. With school and all, I just cant get involved with it now, but im getting all the information together in the meantime, so when i come home, the car can finally get fiuxed and on the road. Digital, if you can be here for May 20 2005, thats when the car goes in to be fixed.
SigEpCutlass
"goes into be fixed"...shaun's talking about actually getting your hands dirty and maybe doing something under the hood. Not driving to the stealership for some assclown to work on it...
brianteel
the 3800 will bolt in no problem. you will need to change the axles and play with the wiring. maybe use a 92 regal 3800 harness with ECU to run it.

If that were the case, if he were to get his drivetrain out of a 96 Regal, then he wouldn't need to make the custom axles, correct? How about leaving the stock 4T60-E in the car and picking up the L36 motor only, bolting the L36 to the stock tranny, and using a 92 Regal 3800 harness/ECM to run the whole thing? brianteel
you can do that too. you can do the same thing for the L67 and get a chip burned. the only thing is no one has tried it
94CutlassSLCoupe
As far as I am concerned, I won't let anyone do engine work on my car, let alone do an engine swap. We (meaning w-body.com members) should really just have some sort of party at someones house and just swap out the engine in Petty's car in one weekend. The way it is going the Petty will never run correctly again. You really need to change your sig to " '92 Grand Prix SE Richard Petty Edition, broke ass LQ1, but I still want to mod the rest of the car and I have no knowlege on how to fix the engine" No Offense, I just really dont like hearing about how you want to do this or that to your car that doesn't freakin run right. I've read enough crap to know what's going on...Your head gaskets are junk along with the collateral damage cause by that. You tell us the story all the time... WANTING to put a new engine in is something that lots of people want to do, but you should seriously just take the time you waist asking all these questions and get a job to make money for an engine or just start fixing the damn thing yourself. Guest Anonymous
did the fact that i am paying 30 grand a year for college and cant have a job ever ring a bell? did you read threw that post yet too? Thats why I dont have the money to fix the engine, yet, but I did actually get a job now through my school working at the front desk of my apartment building. w00t. THe_DeTAiL3R
Why don't you just fix the engine in your car(s). No need to swap in something different you are just gonna make a "rare" car worthless by putting in a different engine. It can't take more than a couple hour a day for a week to change the damn gaskets, common now.
sl3196
No shit petty, all the time you sit here posting you could have bought a repair manual and had the car running great by now.
