fierofanatic
:x Couldn't come at a worse time, damn transmission just went in my grand prix, 110k miles. I need this car for work and school. Sounds like a cement mixer running at full speed with rocks inside of it. 1993 Grand Prix, 4T60-E. Lower the mileage the better, as from what I can tell, GM's automatics are only made to last 100K. I live in Michigan too.
94CutlassSLCoupe
If you've got the money, just get a remanufactured transmission. Used transmissions are a gamble!
Baddflash
If you've got the money, just get a remanufactured transmission. Used transmissions are a gamble! I think if you examine the transmission carefully you can make an educated guess on if it'll work or not. Out of 5 swaps I have done not one has failed(as far as I know) I may have examined like 50+ trannys to get those five good ones but it was fully worth it. I've seen too many people spend $2000+ on rebuilds that fail in under 20k miles, that's just plain sad. I'd rather spend $100 a year replacing j/y trannys than spend 2k on a "REBUILT" one that craps out in a year. Just my 2 cents.
Smoke1991
well, if i had the tools i woulda done the same, get a jy tranny, but if you go to the right place, you can get a good rebuild cost, i just had mine done, it was gone to all hell, costed me 1400 bucks and got a 1 year warranty on it, oh yah, unlimited milage on the warranty, allready drove it 2k (also beating the fuck outa it, see if the guys words stick "it will outlast this car" so heheheeheh) but yah, if the guy rebuilding the tranny knows what he is doing, then good, but i lucked out, this guys brother runs a engine shop and my friends fathers best friend is the guy who runns the engine shop, so i got that price plus extra shit done for free, and i know hes not going to fuck me. Shop around, thats all i have to say. good luck
