SUPERDUTYD
i have a 92 z-34 that hardly runs. it will start and drive, but not much more than idle speed. my fuel pressure is under 10 psi. the car ran fine before i replaced the fuel tank. i replaced the fuel filter and i can hear the pump running, but it sounds kind of bad. i guess it must be the pump right? does anyone know if there is a easier way to replace the pump other than droping the tank. has anyone used a universal fuel pump? slick
Most likely, it's the pump. I think the best way to do it is to drop the tank.
Guest TurboSedan
unfortunately, dropping the tank is the only way. it's a PITA, ecspecially if you have alot of gas in the tank.
DiscoStudd
There's no way around it, you have to drop the tank. I don't know how well an inline fuel pump would work either. It would have to draw fuel through the old pump (if that would even work, I'm not sure...)
stockgp
you could take out your back seat and cut a hole in the floor make a sort of acces panel. maybe weld a hinge in there
4spdz34
rule of thumb is if your in the tank u replace the pump, cause chances are u are gunna put it back together and its not gunna work
Canada
Dropping the tank isn't hard.....even doing it on the ground with only floor jacks. I'd throw a fuel pump at if you only have 10 psi...........there *might* be some weird resistance built into the wiring someplace......but I douubt it being that it just ran.....beings that it does build a minor amount of pressure you know that you are getting proper power and ground to it. Make sure you replace the pulsator if it has one and the sock.
Guest TurboSedan
is pulsator another word for dampener? i removed my dampener and clamped a section of fuel line in it's place. the new TGP fuel pump wouldn't fit in the hanger because the dampener was too short. paulrichmond
Might consider bolting on a new Fuel Pump Pulsator, should replace this part if problem still persists so frequently. I think he would have figured this out by now, seeing as the last post was about 6 years ago.
