EricBigNally Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 I noticed tonight that the left side of my radio controls on my steering wheel don't light up at night. Why aren't they working. The buttons still work fine but the light is out and it annoys me because I like the way they look. How can I fix it and is it going to be very expensive? Quote
Kalgorn Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 You'll have to take apart the button area of the steering wheel and replace the small bulb in there. Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 You need a new bulb man. I like how you can goto the store and buy four GE light bulbs for like $1.50 but it costs anywhere from $2.00 - $5.00 for just one of our bulbs at AutoZone. WTF? Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Anyone know if the buttons on a 95 are suppose to light up? Quote
z34_nut Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 well, its possible, take it apart and check Quote
erich Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Anyone know if the buttons on a 95 are suppose to light up? They are supposed to light up. The bulbs are burnt out. Quote

pwmin Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 i just finished changing those the other day. i also recently change the head unit bulb. http://web.archive.org/web/20040109193102/http://doghouse/2y.net/gtp/steeringcontrols/ its kind of a pia to change them in the swc's. be patient. i didnt pay attention to how they put the bulb in, i just put it in with the filament facing like they were originally (you'll see what i mean) edit: sorry the link didnt work but im working on it. looks like im gonna have to scan the print off i did. it just worked last week. wtf? same thing happened to the writeup i used for the head unit Quote
pwmin Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 if anyone wants the writeup, ill sent it to them in a pm or email, but ill have to scan it in first Quote

DiscoStudd Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 mine also dont light up, but they dont work either do to a new head unit. Then here's what you need, my friend:http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounrem.html Or if you have a Pioneer, check this out: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundrempiogm.html Quote
PeNZ Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I have a pioneer, but damn 100$ for those controls shit. thanks for the site tho, ill look into it. Quote
Dannymik Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 a $100 for the damn steering wheel buttons to operate Quote
pwmin Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 i got the http://www.peripheralelectronics.com peswi-x for mine. i hated spending the money, but im happy now that its installed. still, my receiver sucks and the ir sensor sucks on it, so it was hard to find a good placement for the ir transmitter. DiscoStudd Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I mounted mine directly under the radio. It works like a charm! Quote
Broan Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4105_35690,00.html I just use one of these... much easier because your hands never leave the wheel, and you only need to use your thumb to operate it, and you can feel which button does what once you get used to it. I have a leather steering wheel cover to hide the strap. Quote
pwmin Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I mounted mine directly under the radio. It works like a charm! i wish i could do that but i had to settle for a pos jvc head that you have to have it directly in front of it for it to work. my clarion i had crapped out and best buy quit selling them, so i didnt want any of the crap they had there but i had to pick one so i got a jvc. big mistake Quote
sl3196 Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 My steering wheels controls aren't important enough to spend $100 to get working again. I could buy a pulley and a new belt instead! Quote
GP1138 Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I mounted mine directly under the radio. It works like a charm! Who was the artist on that song, DS? I know Aerosmith did a cover of "Rattlesnake Shake". <----- HARDCORE Aerosmith fan... Quote
PeNZ Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I have the exact same pioneer model. Quote
