Guest Disturbed Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 My 92 z34 has had heating problems. The fans don't turn on correctly. I just replaced one fan motor and the coolant temp sensor. Once the engine reaches the temp where the fans should kick on, they don't. The only way it kcomes on is if I turn the air conditioner on, and then only the #1 fan turns on (drivers side). The upper rad hose does get hot, so I'm sure the thermo is fine. Also, before I replaced the burnt out #1 motor, the #2 fan did turn on with the a/c, but since the waterpump and sensor has been replaced, its not. The relays are good. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Do a coolant flush, you'd be surprised how new coolant can do wonders. If you can, maybe change the t-stat just for the hell of it.. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 check the relays and the fuses for the fans, I had a bad relay and that same thing was happening to me. --Dave. Quote
Guest Disturbed Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 i had a coolant flush done in march, and as for the relays, one is new, and i've swithed them, and it didn't help. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 humm... I'd jump the terminal to see if the fan even turns on - if it does, then I'd start following wires to see if any have fallen out, come loose, broken that type of thing. --Dave. Quote
Guest Disturbed Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 nope, the wires are good, #1 turns on, and #2 turned on before the sensor was replaced, i'm pretty darn sure nothing in the wiring changed. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 I'd Highly suspect the sensor then - I'd check for a reading on it (ohm's) and perhaps ground out the wire commin' off the sensor to see if that tripps the fan. --Dave. Quote
Guest Disturbed Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 the sensor was just installed last MONDAY! Quote
slick Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 And you said that before the sensor, it would kick in. So, the best guess is that something is wrong with the sensor. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 not without seein' the car man, that'd a tough TOUGH one to try to figure out. --Dave. Quote
Intimidatorz34 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 the computer or chip......my fan was turning on and staying on. So I changed the chip and computer at the same time and one of the two fixed the problem. (but I would only do that if its a last resort or if u have an extra one laying around) Quote
Guest Disturbed Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 i've got an extra computer, but what chip? Quote
Intimidatorz34 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 i've got an extra computer, but what chip? There are four bolts/screws on the computer that hold a panel on.....if you take those out and remove the panel you will find a blue computer chip. You can buy reprogrammed ones to control fuel mapping, egr, etc. But if you have a different computer all together.....just switch them out. Quote
