Injector Replacement, 3.4

Recommended Posts

From reading the maintenance section on http://www.60degreev6.com, removing the upper plenum looks like cake: http://www.60degreev6.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=DOHC&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=16&page=1

And removing the fuel rail doesn't look to bad either:http://www.60degreev6.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=DOHC&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=18&page=1.

My injectors should be in sometime this week, hopefully. So, about how long does this take? Are there any special tools the average mechanic doesn't have that I will need to pick up? Any tips or tricks, or is it just pretty straightforward?

I allready have a new intake plenum gasket, so that's covered. Is there anything else I will need to pick up(i.e. any other parts) for this?

Thanks

If that intake gasket has been on there for more than 500 miles.......she'll pry crack coming off.

Upper intake removal on a 3.4 DOHC is pure cake..........I think I (Buls as well) have gotten that down to 10 min on the Grand Prix.....its so easy. Do it yourself......get new injector o-rings.

Yeah, just tell them you need injector o-rings, they should be able to figure it out. Last I checked though it was around $6 per kit, and a kit only does one injector, so you need 6 kits ($40 dollars in rubber o-rings?!?!?!). Personally, as long as they aren't cracked or broken I'd put a coat of silicone grease on them and reuse them.

DAMN!!!!! You need that many o-rings???? I'll just pick up some silicon grease and re-use em!

Since this is my first time removing the plenum on this car, i'll probably take me a few minutes longer than 15 minutes. But, it looks really damn simple, maybe only 20 minutes or so.

Hmm...fire=bad...

I reused mine when I did my upper and lower intakes, and I've not a had fire. As previously noted I just checked them over and greased em up before putting it back together. That was like 20,000 miles ago and no problems yet.

Oh, and if its your first time taking the plenum off plan on spending at least an hour if not two taking it apart. And as long as your doing it replace the brake booster hose ($7 for a preformed hose from GM), and the two EGR gaskets as well ($2 ea.). And since the intake gaskets only come in an upper/lower kit ($45 ish) you may as well spend the extra half an hour to do the lower intake gasket too.

if your still planning on doing this @ kensington, I'll bring the Haynes manual if you want. I don't really have any tools to bring that are special though.

I changed my belt and belt tensioner today in the parking lot at work in 10 minutes with a 13mm socket and a 3/8 drive rachet

I'll have my tools with me. Someone just bring a pair of plyers, because I actually don't have any :lol:

I allready have the directions on how to do it all printed out, so I won't need a Haynes manual, but I'll bring mine anyways.
