no1kicker Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Is this considered the water pump gakset? Mine's leaking and I need to know what to ask for at the parts desk. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Water pump outlet gasket. But I'm not sure if you'll find one. I used silicone on mine. Holding up good. Quote
WhiteOut Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Just use RTV sealant. Its cheap and available plus it works great. Quote
R Dubya Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 The gasket it only a few bucks and worth it if you don't want to take it back apart. I got mine at Advance for less than $3.. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 isn't that the location of the thermostat too? Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 no, the thermostat is on the other side under the waterneck, right next to the oil fill cap. Quote
Heza Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 thermostat bypass pipe o-ring. cheap at dealership. Quote
Heza Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I just used silicone why? when you can fix it correctly for $3 if that. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I used RV sealant stuff WITH my gasket when I changed the waterpump... that biatch will NEVER leak!! isn't that the location of the thermostat too? No but I there is a bleeder screw on top of that on my 3100 (I forget about my 2.8) Quote
midnight rider Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 If you can get the correct part, use it. Don't go cheap and use silicone. Quote
rudefyet Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I just used silicone why? when you can fix it correctly for $3 if that. I seriously doubt I had 3 dollars at the time Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 If you can get the correct part, use it. Don't go cheap and use silicone. silicone only sounds like a hack job to me. do it the right way. Quote
WhiteOut Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 How is high temp silicone a hack job? The stuff is indestructable and will never leak and it looks fine if aplied with some care? So why not use it if you've got it laying around as most of us do? Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 because the gasket is really cheap anyway, and it is simply the right way to do it. if you feel comfortable using just silicone be my guest btw, i like your sig, my Lebaron would embarass you hardcore didn't mean to hurt your feelings calling your gasket 'fix' a hack job lol. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 the gasket's called coolant bypass hose gasket, or something to that effect. I just replaced mine 3 weeks ago. I'll take a quick look in the manual tomorrow. Quote

I have had that stuff blow out on me so many times it isn't funny. I used to think that way too. I used to useit on thermostat housings and water pumps untill i noticed that after 6 months or so, i'd start seeing a leak. Use the correct gasket. They make and sell them for a reason. Quote

Lebarons have the structural rigidity of chocolate pudding and the handling to match. Quote
