cutsup1996 Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 hey guys haven't been here inna long time so busy with school and work but gotta question for ya. first off the transaxle link on here isn't working on my computer gives me some error or something so don't tell me to just look at that. but a good friend of mine has a 96' grand prix 4door and wants to see how close a race at our local track would be against my 96' cutlass 2door, we both have the 3100. i have to say my motor is in a little better shape than his mechanically, said his lifters were knockin' real bad but said it still moves like it did when he bought it so who knows, he has no mods whatsover, i only have the intake from rsm. don't know it it matters but i have lowered the car 1.5", have front and rear strut tower braces and brand new michelin pilot xgt h4's, i was gonna look at the axle ratios to compare but like i stated above so, and also i am tryin' to find exact weights of both our cars too, any help. so tell me what u guys think, and the track is a 1/8 mile notta 1/4 so don't know if that matters too. thanks guys. Dirty Rockstar Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 If you are a good driver, you will win.. If you suck.. Well.. You suck.. And I can forsee the outcome of the race.. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 yep, it will come down to skill...I think the Cutlass may be a bit lighter and a bit more areodynamic... Quote
WhiteOut Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 yep, it will come down to skill...I think the Cutlass may be a bit lighter and a bit more areodynamic... Aerodynamics won't make a bit of differance at sub 100mph speeds...and assuming one of you isn't morbidly obese the cars should be about the same weight give or take 100 lbs (fuel level???), so he who mashes the pedal first wins. conley3.1 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Heh... Take out your spare, jack, passenger seat, tools/whatever and go on like 1/8 tank of gas... Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 The cars have identical gearing so that is not a factor. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Heh... Take out your spare, jack, passenger seat, tools/whatever and go on like 1/8 tank of gas...True. For every 100 pounds you shed, you gain a tenth in the quarter (don't know what that equates to in the eighth...) Quote

For every 100 pounds you shed, you gain a tenth in the quarter (don't know what that equates to in the eighth...) From personal experience at the track, I think its more than that... at least with a 2.8 w-body or 3.1 Sunbird.. Quote
midnight rider Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Put your car on a diet. lose the carpet out of the trunk..... you get the idea. lighter = faster. However, if you can't drive, it don't mean dick. Quote
cutsup1996 Posted September 10, 2004 Author Report Posted September 10, 2004 ok so put it in 3rd and launch from what rpm, i've never truly drag raced my car at a track before so what is the best rpm to get the 3100 going, with like 2-2.5k or somethin'? Quote
Grand Moff Joseph Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 don't forget to add a ten foot spoiler and 40 racing decals. Those add 5HP each! Quote
