Rob95CS Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I have the chance to get a screaming deal on the engine, trans, and computer from a 1997 Lumina with a 3400 (not DOHC). My question is, will it fit in the engine bay of my 95 Cutlass, and how tough of a swap is it to do? Quote
slick Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Yes, it will fit. What engine do you currently have in your car?? If you say a 3100, its a direct swap, you might not even have to swap computers. Quote
Rob95CS Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 It's a 3100.... how about the trans? Direct swap too? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Simple, painless swap. Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 are you sure its a 3400, cause they never came in the Lumina Quote
Brian P Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 he mighta meant Lumina minivan, I think they made em in '97 next to the Venture for that year, maybe? Quote
Rob95CS Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 Lumina LTZ ... a '97 I believe. They had the 3400s for a year or two. Not long, though. So from what I understand from searching around is that the 3400 is a 100% direct replacement for the 3100, it will use the same trans and computer, and all that needs to be done is to use the sensors from the 3100? In 98, the optional engine was the L36 (3800 Series II n/a) The base motor in the LTZ's was the 3100. There was a debate about this very subject a few months ago. But like it was mentioned, no Lumina CAR ever had a 3400 available (it was available in the 96 Lumina MINIVAN, though...) This is an early 3100: If the motor you want to swap in looks like this... : ...the swap will be a direct bolt-in and you'll be able to use the stock PCM and trans. If the motor you speak of looks like this... : ... it won't be that easy to swap in... Quote

Guest TurboSedan Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 wouldn't a 3400 run lean with a 3100 computer? Quote
stlunatics2oo3 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 okay i am wonderin how hard would it be to put that newer 3400 non dohc in a 89 cutty that has a 2.8 , automatic and also if there is a website out there for this please put a link up thanks Jeremy Quote
Carotop Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Alrighty how hard would it be to swap a 3800 supercharged from a grand prix into a 93 cutty with a 3.1? or would it be easier to do a top end swap Quote

Yes, a 3100/3400 top end swap, hell, whole engine swap would be much easier than a L67 swap. Quote
White93z34 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 well you sure ain't gona swap a 3800 s/c top on your 3.1, completely different engine familys, a 3400 top end could bolt onto your 3.1 though Quote
manitcor Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Swapping any GM 60v6 with another is easy, the 3400 swap can be done in a day and no it will not run lean on a comp for a 3100 however to truly take advatange of the engine one should get a PCM tuned for the engine/trans combo. DHP can hook you up with the right PCM Quote
Carotop Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Alrighty but would the 3800 swap out the whole thing easily cuz this chop shop I went to the guy said its be a big headache to do and I'd have to work on it everyday Quote
