badprix Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 went to start the car yesterday and smoke started rolling off the power steering pump pulley, so i filled it up with some fluid and that stopped but there was a kind of whining sound and it wasnt the belt squeaking more like a pulley bearing went out or something and then my altenator had a little bit of smoke coming of it like it was being overworked...does anyone know what this might be Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 Your power steering pump (bearing) is probably shot, causing the whining. It may have thrown some power steering fluid into the alternator causing it to smoke as it burns off. Quote
badprix Posted December 29, 2002 Author Report Posted December 29, 2002 Do you know what would have to be replaced on it, like the entire pump or what? thank you Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 I would just replace the pump. You'll probably have to put your resorvoir on the new pump. There are two clips that hold them together. I priced a rebuild kit for my pump once and it was only $2 cheaper than buying a new pump. Quote
