Euro Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 i think the better question is how badly did you abuse that cutty that you blew a headgasket in the quite litrally "unbreakable" 3100???? Wha? 170,000 miles on that engine.. what if the gaskets are original? thats what i was gonna say. man your cutty had 170,000 on it!! I was thinking it had like 70,000-80,000 Quote
DiscoStudd Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Here's my 2 cents: Go out and buy a low mileage boneyard 3400, pick up a Hayne's manual, tear the 3400 apart and replace the gaskets yourself (giving you some practice, and preventing future problems on the new motor.) Pluck out the 3100 that's in your car and drop in the newly-gasketed 3400. Change the gaskets on the old 3100 then put it up for sale (the old motor not the car...) Quote
Heza Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 3.1 - the easier to fix no doubt...take no more than a weekend to get your car running again. 3.1s are simple to do....FIX IT Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'd have to say fix it yourself[/u]. Or buy a new car. Quote
rudefyet Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hope my headgasket doesn't go... There's no way in hell i could afford to fix it or buy a new car Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 replacing head gaskets yerself can be an easy task, if you've got pleanty of time to do it, just make sure you have the heads machined for trueness. if the car is dead and you're left with little options fixing it yourself may be your best choice. You've got ton's of people here to help ya out the best way we can, and any other information should you want it. --DaveFromColorado Quote

If your not willing to do the job yourself then you have to know someone that would help you out. I have a friend that does these for $350-$400 which is worth paying if you like what you drive. I would go shopping for something decent for now and park the Cutlass. Get that bitch fixed and be the car pimp that you mentioned! Quote
MIKELABZ Posted September 10, 2004 Author Report Posted September 10, 2004 traded it in.. got a grand for it from the dealership i work at. now i drive a 1999 GMC jimmy. cost too much to repair... 1500.00 blown head gaskets... this is my curtain call... im outta here... good luck with ur rides... Quote
DiscoStudd Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 traded it in..You "trader!" ( pun intended, you know cause it sounds like "traitor" ) Good luck with the Jimmy! Just because you got rid of your "W" doesn't mean you have to quit hanging out here. For example, Midnight Rider got rid of his Loomie months ago and he still hangs around. FWIW, I think there are a few members here that have Blazers or Jimmy's... Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I've got two Fords, and my ol' lady is drivin' an Acheva (can't remember the body code) and I'm still hangin' 'round. think, I joined here with two W-bodies, and now I have none - perhaps I'll find a good W-body to put my 3100 in (that I have just as a spare in the garage) --Dave.
