Tip...... for the auto to manual swappers.

For anyone attempting this mod I strongly recommend that you swap the plate that the master cylinder, brake booster..etc. attach to because not having done so has been a bit of a problem for me..until today that is.

I finally had the clutch pedal rod extended to put the pedal in the proper spot. Now I can use the cruise and put the n.s.s. in place and still be able to shift.

It's strange getting used to the clutch engaging so high up, and not having to jam the clutch to the floor to be able to shift either, I almost had to re-learn how to drive it

Seems like a lot of people doing the swap now so I thought I'd pass this on. Just wish I'd known it would be such a problem for me when I had it all ripped apart.

i've never had that problem in the 70,000+ miles i've had the manual transmission in the car  usually when i shift gears i have at least 1 more inch of pedal travel before it will hit the floor (if not more like 2"). i used a brand new Raybestos clutch master cylinder when i did my swap tho, so maybe that's why i haven't had any problems.

i agree tho - swapping that plate in is the right way to do it.

Well I tried a new master cylinder and it made no difference. I don't know but for some reason the 1/4" I lost because of that plate made it so the clutch sat an inch below the brake pedal giving me the problems I stated. Now I don't even use half the clutch's travel, it's really strange. The clutch now sits like 3/4" above the brake pedal and everything works fine.

Maybe it's the combination of parts used....IDK :?

hey what are you doing with that trans off of the 3100 ... ?

It's actually off the '90 3.1L so its the 440T4, it's just sitting at my uncles with the 3100. I was thinking of swapping it into the the beater but it sounds like too much work to go from a 3-spd to a 4-spd so I guess it's for sale but it won't work with a 3100.

i'm planning on swapping the plate in, even tho its going to be a big pain in the ass to remove the heater box. i'm just gonna pull my motor and dash all out to do the swap. i'm hoping my buddy lets me keep it inside in his new shop's extra bay in exchange for swapping his caprice's 305 for a nice 350 for him, so i can take my time and not half-ass anything

Don't have to remove the heater box, just kinda pry it back enough to slip the plate in.

The odd angle of the rod conenction to the pedal actually blew out my master cylinder because I tried it the other way first. Ended up with a toasted reverse syncro, carpet drenched in brake fluid, and a few months of being constantly pissed off at it.
