sho94_2000
My dad has a 1998 Lumina LTZ with the 3800 V6. The SES light is on all the time. We had the car scoped and the result from OBD-II is that there is "insufficient flow". So, we replaced the EGR valve and the PCV valve. We had the light or "code" cleared and the light keeps coming on. There is absolutly no power loss and all of the mechanics have either said, "just disconnect the light", or "umm..........". Could the O2 sensor set that off. Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks BTW: The car has about 106,xxx miles on it.
PeNZ
give us the code number you got, and we can help you better.
Justin
If you're getting a P0401 that means you're not getting enough egr flow to the motor. Could be the valve, but since you replaced it I'm guessing you have plugged egr ports. Hmm, not sure if the 3800 runs individual egr ports to each cyl. or not, most fords do. take the valve off and run stiff wire down both ports and see if you can break up some gunk. I think the o2 just reads to see if the car runs slightly leaner when the egr is opening, so if it gave you a po401 it should be ok.
GPRACER
Would be nice to know what the code is. You could try removing the EGR valve from the engine and starting the engine. Loud as hell but would blow out any debris in the EGR piping, watch your eyes and just rev the engine for a couple of times.
