95 BLKDOUT Drop Top
Ok i kno the "mighty" 3100 is no power house but is there anything i can do to get more power? The gm V6s are known for there "brain twisting" torque but it seems as if the 3100 was absent when the general was passin out the Red Bull, so what options are out there for the 3100. Im gonna do a dual exhaust with a magnaflo free flow cat and 2 magnaflow str8 thru mufflers and a CAI by the begining of october, what else is out there? THe_DeTAiL3R
not much maybe some NAWZ!!!!!!!!!!! Do you ALWAYS have to be an ass when someone asks for suggestions on our engines?? I know their is next to nill aftermarket, but there is still stuff you can do. You can only get so much as far as bolt on stuff. For bolt ons get a cat-back (or just mandrel bend exhaust 2.25 or so for 3100), K&N (if you get a cone make a fenderwall intake or you will just suck in hot air and lose torque), switch to all synthetic fluids, and make sure the whole thing is tuned up 100%. In 1997 (I beleive) the 3100 got roller rockers, so you could get a set of those for your engine. The newer (2000 I think) 3100s had 175HP (a 15hp gain), I think they had a slightly improved intake and exhaust, but am not sure exactly. Your car is a 'vert which weights more too, so I wouldn't try to hard to make it into a racecar.. If you want more indepth info on the engine go to http://60degreev6.com Also, NOS is an option, just do it right, and only use it at the track. 93CutlassSupreme
i just don't want people to get high hopes for easy hp gains, because there arn't any easy ways to gain lots of power for us. i tell shit how it is.
DiscoStudd
If you want the most HP for the mighty dollar, then swap in a complete 3400 motor. http://www.3400swap.com . There is one place that sells hop-up parts for the 60* V6 and that's Mantapart http://www.mantapart.com

Brian P
I'd definetly say TB from the minivans, a bigger downpipe, bigger exhaust (I'm sure you have the single exhaust like I do....it's nice and solid but 2" is just too small), don't worry much about the roller rockers unless you want to swap heads, at which point you may as well swap lower and upper intakes to the '99+ 3100/96+ 3400 style and get a EGR adapter for the plenum. Vegeta
Mantapart doesnt sell anything exciting for the 3100. overpriced cam regrind...in fact its all overpriced. Swap in higher compression pistons from an iron head 3.1, use LS1 springs from crane, get a cam regrind from crane, and tune the computer/change the shift points. You can modify the rear header off the s&s headers and use their set as well. You can also make a TGP like setup for boost.
excelsior
if your willing to soak your $$$ into it, one of the above mentioned sites has a supercharger......

excelsior
cheap way = new heads + exhaust + cai(homemade of course) + ud pulley + tb.....and then you get ummmm like the power of an l36 if ur lucky....if not you get v6 mustang power yeehaw for that.....man thats kinda depressing......hell id rather have a 3.1 mpfi and do the tgp route..... THe_DeTAiL3R
There is also that electronic supercharger (E-Ram) which I was very skeptical about, but someone on the board gained 0.5seconds on the 1/4 IIRC.
excelsior
this isnt looking too bad then for the 3100 project....im seeing a low 15's w/out THAT much money being soaked into it....
cryptnix
or ... be the 3rd to posses a 3800 s/c powered vert cutty ... talking no more then $2000~$2500 ... you'll be faster then a GP GTP too ... stock cause of the weight difference... not absolutely sure if thats related to the weight of the motor tho ... i'm just the odd one in the gang :-)
THe_DeTAiL3R
from what I understand putting a L67 in a 1st-gen will bump it up to around the same weight as a 2nd gen GTP.. Plus a 'vert is heavier to begin with so I don't think it will be lighter at all.. I am kinda getting tired of the words L67 swap. Can't wait till there are some OTHER good options for lots of power (like the 3900 V6 )

94CutlassSLCoupe
The 3400 and 3800 series II engines aren't a bad swap for some extra HP. I personally wish I could put a 4.3L CPI High Output (92-95) v6 in a Cutlass...It pushes my heavy ass 4 door 4x4 blazer around without a problem (I bet it will easily run with if not beat a 2.8 and maybe a 3.1 multi port w-body)...and it has crazy torque (something like 260 or 270 lb-ft) to go with its 200hp. But then again I'd probably be breaking transmissions every other week

I know cause a regular 4.3L Astro van at the track kept damn near even with me.
