juicedlumina
got home yesterday and my coolant resevoir was going nuts. I turned the ignition on and no fans. No codes are coming up. I know at least one fan should go. Relays work, fans turn on when i stick the paper clip in the diagnostic port. And shouldnt one turn on every time you hit the A/C button? mine doesnt. My a/c doesnt engage cause there is no freon in it so does it need to engage for the fan to work every time? Thanks in advance
White93z34
yes, the AC clutch needs to engauge for the secondary fan to turn on, what was your temp gauge reading, or was the temp idiot light on?
juicedlumina
i have the light, wasnt turned on though, i replaced a temp sensor up on the intake not that long ago cause a code told me it was bad, so that should be working. Light didnt come on but engine was hot as hell
White93z34
so i'm gona asume you have a base lumina, a temp gaouge would be a big help, anyhow the fans at stock setting don't kick on till some abnormaly high temperature (245 mabie??) you may want to check your water pump and thermostat
juicedlumina
(3.1L sorry.) actually, i had a speedo only gauge and i converted over to the gauge cluster, so theres a gauge but it dont work cause the harness and sensor are still the other style on the engine. Thermostats new too. They have worked before even after the gauge swap. there arent really any fuses for the fans are there? up under the hood theres the relays for them but they are good. The temp had to have been really high, dumped a ton of coolant on the garage floor and wouldnt calm down for like 10-15min, pretty sure its the fans, cant see how a bad water pump would make the fan(fans) not turn on. hmm.. Water pump could be bad however since thats like the one thing ive never replaced.
juicedlumina
ive read-up on the temps they turn on at 220 and like 227. no biggie but its a euro.
THe_DeTAiL3R
sorry to hijack.. Is the "thing" on the a/c compressor suppose to spin fast (like same speed as the engine?). Mine spins slow and sorta surges, but it is in need of freyon(sp?). Just wondering if my compressor is FUBAR cause I don't know what all my A/C needs to get it fixed. If its running really hot you might be in need of a tuneup. After I cleaned my TB/IAC and some stuff my car ran much better in traffic. Did you make sure to bleed the system properly? juicedlumina
Well i just put in a cool flex top radiator hose and a billet resevoir. So a couple things have changed. I know those things wont make it overheat but what is this bleed the system of air? how and when do u do it? still dont think it will make my fans turn on but id still like to do the bleed thing anyway to help some
digitaloutsider
If the car is not completely overheating, then the fans are turning on. As you said before, 220 for fan 1 and 227 for fan 2. If you want a cooler running car, put in a 160-180 T-stat and get a chip from Ben. THe_DeTAiL3R
Well i just put in a cool flex top radiator hose and a billet resevoir. So a couple things have changed. On the thermostat housing (or use the bolts of the housing itself.. worked for me) there is also a screw on top of the small hose on top of the waterpump (on my 3100 anyways). With the engine running and at running temperature, open the bleed screws until bubbles and air comes out and close them when coolant comes out.
