LukeZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 White chunks of frozen rain (golfball size) + TGP in driveway = New paint job... AGAIN! It wasn't pretty.. nor did it sound pretty. It just happened an hour ago or so. The hood looks like it took the brunt of the damage, while the rest of the car looks alright. A few dents on the top and the trunk, but nothing anywhere near as bad as the ol' Lumina got a few years back. It took a toll on the vinyl top of the Samurai too.. I got a few Mpeg movies with the digital camera during the storm.. Nevermind the babbling I am doing in the video, I was on the phone at the time. (Videos are about 5mb each) Video of hail hitting the car: http://lukez34.com/hostedpics/hail/hail1.MPG Video of after it slowed down.. notice the few large pieces falling yet: http://lukez34.com/hostedpics/hail/hail2.MPG Video of what it sounded like in the garage: (That's my g/f's Black 90 TGP in the garage in case your wondering.) http://lukez34.com/hostedpics/hail/hail3.MPG More pictures to come tomorrow when I clean it off and assess the damage some more. digitaloutsider Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Shit dude.. I'm sorry. If it isn't TrailBlazers it's hail.. Poor TGP Quote
slick Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Man, that really blows.... I think it's time you moved!! Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Hahahaha yeah I'd say so too...I remember what happened to your Z34 :? Quote
Euro Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 damn that sucks. You've got some bad luck with hail and cars man! Is that why you got rid of the Z, because of hail damage? Quote
sl3196 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 That sucks ass! I know how it is though, happened to my cutlass. Quote
99RegalGS Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 That sucks Luke. I remember the day I got the Regal it hailed, but there was no damage thankfully. Quote
z34_nut Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 fucking hail!!! :dammit: i'm seriously afraid of that where i am now..lets just hope it never happens. Quote
slick Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 fucking hail!!! :dammit: i'm seriously afraid of that where i am now..lets just hope it never happens. For the most part, your fine there. We do get hail here, but not that big. I've been worried a few times, but it was only like .25"-.5" hail, which isn't all that big. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Author Report Posted August 30, 2004 Thanks for the words fellas. Is that why you got rid of the Z, because of hail damage? Partly.. I got rid of it because it was becoming bad luck! A month after I got it back from being redone from the hail damage, I got rear-ended. It wasn't bad, but enough to crack the bumper cover and bust the license plate assembly. Got that fixed cheaply, and sold the car.. My fear with the TGP is it could easily be totaled. Have to see what the ins. company says, and what my estimates look like. If it does get painted, I'm going to toss some extra money at it and have everything done. I'm thinking the same color of red, but with some metallic flake in it. Quote
White93z34 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 poor TGP. so young, so spotless. insurance co better not total it its FAR too nice good luck with that luke Quote
WhiteOut Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 You may want to promptly remove those vids from the internet and your computer. If anyone at your insurance company sees those they're going to wonder why you stood there taking vids when you could have been getting the car out of the hail some how or another. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Author Report Posted August 30, 2004 Right.. Driving IN the hail, making the impacts on the car even worse. I would have caused more damage to the car driving around town finding an empty shelter to park the car. There's no place near me that offers any sort of protection for a vehicle. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Movies no workie, but I can relate. My Cutlass was hail damaged by quarter-sized hail back in August of '97. I hate hail with a passion, the car will never be completely right after that. If you have it fixed the "old fashioned" way, you have Bondo. If you have it fixed the PDR way, your inner panels become swiss-cheezed. Just can't win either way. Quote

There isn't anything you could do. By the time you get out there the damage is done. Quote
sl3196 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 that was painful to watch.... I know... Same thing I felt watching my cutlass get destroyed by the hail. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Author Report Posted August 30, 2004 Got some pictures.. The hood got the shit beat out of it, but the top and the trunk have only a couple of dents. I would have caused more damage to the car driving around town finding an empty shelter to park the car. There's no place near me that offers any sort of protection for a vehicle. Actually since they were at someone's house I would assume there is a garage nearby or a tarp or something...why the hell would you would think I meant he should drive the car around is beyond me. The fact still remains that if the insurance company sees videos or a post like this they aren't going to be happy. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Once the hail starts, you're screwed. It doesn't give any warning, it just starts raining hail. I remember I DID run out and move my car into my parents' garage as soon as I heard the hail. By then, it was too late. Quote
sl3196 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I doubt the insurance co. could do anything even if they saw the vids. Like I said by the time he got out there (also risking personal injury) the hail would already have done it's damage. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 about the only thing Luke could have done was drive it into his own garage, and that obviously wasn't a choice since the black TGP was already in there. it's not like the insurance company is going to turn down his insurance claim because he didn't have a tarp around or his neighboor didn't let him park in their garage. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted August 30, 2004 Author Report Posted August 30, 2004 Actually since they were at someone's house I would assume there is a garage nearby or a tarp or something... A tarp would do no good, and my garage was occupied by my girlfriends car, which I don't have the keys for, nor does it run right now. No one on this end of town has an empty garage, or a garage at all for that matter. Being family friends with my insurance agent, I have no worries about what they would say about a post like this. Anyway, went and got one estimate. With the car pulled in to a shop there was many more hidden dents that couldn't be seen in daylight. This is the same person who painted my Lumina, and he estimates the damage around $3000. I'll find out tomorrow what it is since he was swamped with estimates to write up today. Either way, for a 14 year old car, it's not looking good. Quote
